One of my kids’ favorite part of their school day is science class. Especially when they get to do hands-on fun and experiments! And now that we’re all spending a lot more time at home, I’ve been looking for things to keep them busy, help them learn, but still have fun at the same time. I found a company online to help me meet all of the requirements. We are having fun with the Just Add Egg Steam Kit by Griddly Games. It seemed like a great choice, with it being Easter and Springtime too!
About Griddly Games
The team behind Griddly Games is defined by their unwavering commitment to create amazing games that engage kids with STEAM content. We want to share our own passion for these topics with others in a fun, approachable way. We also want to make each experience you have with our products an unforgettable one.
Founded in 2007, we started off as a small company with only a few board games and a big dream. It was the development of Wise Alec that really marked a new page in Griddly’s story. Our focus then turned towards creating engaging STEAM games & content that would make learning into something memorable.
About Just Add Egg
Using this kit, and your own eggs, complete over 10 science experiments! Make your own dinosaur egg, have fun with eggs that disappear and more. This kit contains almost everything you need, except for the eggs, to have fun and learn at the same time. Ages 5 and up.
My Thoughts
Now that the kids are home more than usual, I will admit it; I’ve been on the hunt for fun and games that will also be educational, too. I have an age range of kids though, so finding something we can do as a family can be a bit tricky. And experiments are always fun for us, no matter what time of year it is. But I don’t want to have to keep a lot of odd ball ingredients around that we only use for that activity. That’s one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed the Just Add Egg Steam Kit by Griddly Games. It comes with nearly everything you need, and all I have to provide are the eggs from our fridge.
The kit itself comes in a neat little box with everything packaged separately and an interesting book with instructions and details about each experiment. It’s not enough to just complete the hands-on part but also be able to talk about the “why” behind what was happening.
Some experiments were on the messy side, like when you poke a hole in each end of an egg and blow the contents out (carefully!). You’re going to make a mess so be prepared! Others required some concentration and/or time, so make sure you read ahead before just jumping in to one.
Other Just Add Games
Being as it is springtime, we all know the weather can change quickly. That outdoor play time may get pushed indoors, and then the dreaded “B” word gets uttered. “Mom, I’m bored.” Normally I break out a chore list, but when I’d like to head it off before they use that word, I can choose from several other kits by Griddly Games. Each has the same premise, that you add one ingredient from home. Like with the Just Add Sugar kit, you can use the white sugar you have at home to learn about how crystals are made, make your own soap, and even make your own candy!
Then there is the Just Add Glue kit that uses the supplies in the kit plus glue from home to make science and art. It includes instructions to make stretchy slimey stuff, window clings, and even bouncy things! Oh, and they have one that is Just Add Milk. Using milk with the kit, the kids learn about surface tension, reactions with different ingredients, and even make tie dye items.
Just Add Kits are great
I think these kits are a great and handy way to keep the kids busy, learning, and having fun, all at the same time. I love that almost everything is included but one main item, like eggs for the Just Add Egg Steam kit. If you’ve never used these kind of things before, I would suggest you read through the instructions first before sitting down with the kids. They are going to want to dive right in and at least this way, you’re prepared.
Plus some experiments will need to be planned out for time, and protection put down for messes. The kit comes in a great box that you can pull out and use, then put it away without losing everything in between sessions. It would also make a great gift for other families or even to keep in small classrooms for unexpected free time.
