It’s always great when you can bring fun and learning together and that is exactly what this Stuck Inside Science Experiment does! If you’re stuck inside with the family, this fun experiment with bring a smile to everyone’s face. The kiddos will have a great time learning the science behind clouds and rain.
This Science Experiment works a lot like rain clouds in the sky. The weight of the liquid collected in clouds or shaving cream is what leads to rain. There are so many ideas and ways to use the experiment such as can you add just a smidge of food coloring and not see rain? Can you add a lot and make a storm?
While the kids are having fun experimenting, you can teach the science behind clouds and rain. Clouds are formed from water vapor rising into the air and condensing onto tiny particles of dust. When these droplets come together, clouds form. Water droplets then collect in the cloud, and when the cloud becomes heavy, gravity takes over to pull the water back down to the ground in the form of rain drops.
If your kids love fun science experiments, be sure and check out our Easy Rainbow Science Experiment! It is fun to see the simple chemical reaction and the rainbow of colors!
Rainy Day Experiment
Supplies Needed:
A Glass of Water
Shaving Cream (Foam)
Food Coloring
Directions:
Fill a glass with water to about an inch from the top.

Notes:
-We decided to not dilute our food coloring because we wanted to see instant results.
-Using straight food coloring produced results pretty quickly.
-You can add several drops of food coloring to the water and use a pipette to transfer it to the shaving cream cloud, and it -Will take more time to produce the colorful rain. This is fun to try after you see immediate rain results!
