What reminds you of home? Most of us have several triggers including food and scents. When I think of my home, I can smell the beach and flowers that were growing in our yard. Just a whiff of either of those has me thinking about my home. CHI Candle has released a wonderful line of soy candles with a specific scent for each state. What is your state scent?
About CHI Candles:
Chi Candle, a candle company, owned and operated by wife and husband team, was founded by Chi in Menifee, a city in southwestern Riverside County, California in 2013.
ChiWe were inspired by our love of candles and everything that they bring to a home. However, we were very frustrated with some of the candles we had purchased. They often had little or no aroma, and they burn down the middle of the jar, leaving lots of wax stuck to the side of the jar. We started doing some research and decided to try at making our own candles. Chi CandleWe discovered that most candles are made from paraffin wax, and paraffin wax is obtained from petroleum, which has been found to contain many carcinogenic toxins as well as create soot in the buildings they are burned. On the other hand, many candles are made from soy wax, and soy candles are the healthy, natural alternative to paraffin candles, so we decided to use soy wax in our scented candles. Our soy candles are burn clean, last long, and scented strong! They are poured completely different than any other candle on the market. We make our candles in small batches, and we have developed our unique formula and pouring process. This formula enhances the scent-throw, and maintain a longer burn time. All of our candles are hand poured using domestically grown soy wax, environment-safe cotton wicks, fine fragrance oils, apothecary inspired jars, packaged, and shipped from our Murrieta, California studio.
CHI Candle carries a large line of scents and we are currently enjoying several of the State Candles:
The Kentucky Candle
Kentucky is called the Bluegrass State and is known for its horse farms and bourbon. This candle has a wonderful blend of blackberry, vanilla, bourbon, and brown sugar with notes of musk.
The Ohio Candle
Ohio is called the Buckeye State and is known for its Lighthouses and Buckeyes. This candle is a beautiful blend of cedar, sandalwood, carnation, redwood with a touch of night musk.
The Indiana Candle
Indiana is called the Hoosier State. The name comes from an Indian word for corn hoosa. Men that carried the corn to New Orleans were called hoosa-men; which eventually became hoosiers. This candle has a blend of peony, redwood, cedarwood, sandal, and notes of amber and musk.
The Florida Candle
Florida is called the Sunshine State. The name was adopted because of the vast number of sunny days each year. And even with an average of 230 sunny days…those in Florida say the sun shines every day. In fact, when it does rain, even that is called liquid sunshine. This candle has a blend of the ocean, sand, palm, oranges blossom, grapefruit, strawberries, ripe melon, peaches, kiwi, coconut and palm leaves.
The Georgia Candle
Georgia is known as both the Peach State and the Goober State. Their peaches are famous for the texture and sweetness due to the soil conditions. Goober is another word for peanut which is also a major crop of the state. Georgia has both coastal and farmland which contribute to their high crop yields. This candle includes scents from the coastline, oak, peach, sandalwood, cedarwood, amber with a touch of musk and sea salt air.
The Virginia Candle
Virginia is nicknamed the Old Dominion State because it was the first settled colony. The state has mountains, coastal, and lowlands making it a popular vacation spot any time of the year. This candle is a blend of spruce, cedar, and sandalwood with a touch of musk.
Find Your State Candle
You can find all the other state candles on their Evocate Candle page as well as in their Etsey Shop.
Candle Care
In order to enjoy your candles, they do require some care.
- Before you light your candle, make sure to trim the wick to a 1/4 inch. This keeps the flame low and reduces the burn time.
- In order to burn your candle evenly, and prevent just the center from burning down; try to burn candles long enough each time so that the entire top layer melts before being extinguished. A good rule of thumb is that a candle should be burned at least 1 hour for each inch in diameter.
My Thoughts
I think soy candles by CHI Candles are amazing. Not only are they made from soy wax with essential and fragrance oils, but they also burn clean and smell wonderful. Unlike other brands, CHI Candles have the essential and fragrance oils blended throughout the soy wax. This means the scent will be just as nice whether the first time lighting or the last.
I enjoy having a candle burning that reminds me of sweet memories. We have lived in each of the states above and it doesn’t take long once one of them is lit before someone says something about it. They are a great way to trigger memories. Soon the conversation follows and we are sharing memories of past homes. It’s funny what reminds you of home and has your memories following. For our family, we have moved a lot but each place was home for as long as we were there.
