This Christmas forget the video games and toys that do not engage your childrens’ minds. Instead get them a Jimu Robot, a Meebot 2.0 Kit to interact with. This kit will have them building their robot from small parts, then they will learn to code. They will be ecstatic with all the things they can have Meebot do. Most noteworthy is your kids will be busy learning, while having fun all the while!
About Jimu Robot Meebot 2.0 Kit
This awesome robot is available exclusively at Apple Stores, and will allow your kids to build, code, and play. First you download the free app for an easy 3D build experience. Then just snap together the 390 parts. It has six servo motors, LED lights, color sensor and updated gear movement system for great STEM learning and fun. No tools are necessary, and assembly is easy with the app. Meebot is recommended for children ages 8+. They can create custom actions with the PRP (Pose, Record, Play) function and get their robot to do all kinds of neat tricks.
Building Jimu, Meetbot 2.0
My daughter was able to download the app and build the robot completely by herself. She is 13, so a younger child might need some assistance. I was happy to see how engaging the build was, a real challenge for her. With that being said she kept at it, and took several hours to build Meebot. Then she was very happy to show us what she could have the bot do right away. He was able to dance, wave hello, do karate, and move side to side.
She did all the commands directly from the app. Once she had him doing some of the cool tricks, he needed to charge. Therefore she plugged him into an adapter to charge for the night. The next day she was using the app to code different actions and getting a feel for how the coding all works. It is blocky coding, where you move different blocks into order to cause different actions.
Coding Meebot
The first day, his eyes were lighting up rainbow and it was not in her control. Then after she was working with the app, she was able to make his eyes work independently and be different colors. She made him do a line of actions, plus was able to have him speak and play music through her phone. He can say “yes sir”, “mission complete”, “roger that”, among other phrases. Plus he can make noises and flash his eye lights in disco mode. Now he can make animal noises and make emotion sounds. I know there are countless other things she will be able to get him to do as she plays with the coding process.
Mom’s Thoughts
He has a cute robot voice, and no matter how crazy his moves get, he does not fall over. I thought he was going to tip over a few times because he will fall towards his arm to kick his leg up, but he keeps his balance. Meebot is very entertaining to my daughter who controls him, and to us who get to watch all she is able to make him do. Coding this Meebot 2.0 will help children learn the art of coding, as well as boost confidence. If he does not do what is supposed to happen, they will have to troubleshoot and see why. All of that just bolsters their self image.
Other Jimu Robot Kits
As well as this cute Meebot 2.0, your children might enjoy making a FireBot dragon or a unicorn from the mythical creatures series, or a Champbot from the competitive series. There are several wonderful choices for all the kiddos on your Christmas list.
