This Christmas give the family great games that will entertain them and allow for special quality time. Ravensburger and Wonder Forge will have you all enjoying screen free family time with the cool games listed here. Imagine enjoying Harry Potter and Jaws without turning on the TV. How about being a Disney Villain, or finding out who knows the most trivia? Whatever game is Your game doesn’t matter half as much as the great memories you will make playing them with the whole family!
Villainous Expansions
If you like the original Villainous you will really love the two additions to the franchise. Disney Villainous: Wicked to the Core, and Disney Villainous: Evil Comes Prepared add a variety of new evil characters to your game. Before you could be Ursula, Maleficent, Captain Hook, Queen of Hearts, Prince John, and Jafar. Now with the Wicked to the Core you can be the Evil Queen from Snow White, Hades from Hercules, and Dr. Facilier from The Princess & the Frog. Then with Evil Comes Prepared, you can be Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective, Scar from The Lion King, and Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove.
With the original Villainous I love to be Maleficent, but these new characters have me wanting to be several new diabolical characters. Should I be Hades because his character is awesome or should I be Yzma because her pawn is so cool looking and its purple. Then there is the Evil Queen who gets to poison people with her apples. They are all really neat characters, and they all have specific goals. In this game it does behoove you to choose a character and try and really get good at them. At the same time it is fun to try other characters, and because they have entirely different goals it is like playing a different game each time. This game is real fun with more people, and you can play with up to six people. Most noteworthy is you can mix and match all three games!
Horrified: Universal Monsters
With this strategy game you can team up with your friends to defeat legendary monsters. Horror movie fans will love the chance to go up against Dracula, The Wolf Man and many more. My son and I really like to watch horror movies, and it is our thing because the rest of the family does not like them at all. When I saw this game I knew he would really enjoy it. In fact we all really enjoyed it and we were able to win against two monsters. There are variations on the game to play for more or less of a challenge. We began with the easy level to get the game rules down. Now we are ready to go up against harder monsters or more of them. Each monster has a different way that you have to defeat them, so the game is always a little different.
Harry Potter Labyrinth
This new take on the great classic best-selling Labyrinth game that is celebrating 30 years, is full of your most loved Harry Potter characters. Now you need to find Harry, Hermione, Ron and all their friends. The maze is always changing with each turn and you need to navigate to the people on your card. Once found you look for the person on your next card. After you find them all, head home first to win! We love this game because the rules are easy to follow, and it is fast paced. You need to plan out your moves even though the path changes to get to all your people first. We will play this one more than once at a sitting. The Harry Potter theme just makes it that much better, and also makes it the perfect gift for fellow Harry Potter fans. All the fun of the movies without ever turning on the TV.
Jaws
Enjoy the suspense of surviving Jaws, with Chief Brody, Hooper, and Quint in this screen free family fun game! One person is Jaws, and the other players work together to defeat the shark in this neat game that you play in 2 acts with a special double-sided board. First the people try and rescue swimmers around Amity Island and locate the hidden shark. Meanwhile the shark is eating swimmers and moving around in secret. Then the board flips and the people are on the Orca boat, and the shark rips the boat apart one piece at a time.
This game was great, and very unique. We fought over who got to be Jaws, and my husband got to be the shark. Well in the end, we had one human casualty (me)and one big fish (him), so all in all the people won, Yeah! When we play again we will be even better at the strategy part because we will have this experience under our belts. Either way it is a fun game and easy to catch on to. Most noteworthy though is you can play either act as a shorter stand alone game.
kNOW!
This always-up-to-date quiz game is the first board game powered by Google Assistant. kNOW! features over 1500 questions and answers, that will all depend on your location, the current day, and who you are playing with. This game melds together on-and off-line gaming for a neat way to enjoy screen free family time. kNOW! is compatible with virtually any Android/iOS mobile phone or smart home device. There are also questions you can use for a totally off-line game experience.
Giddy Up!
Wonder Forge brings us this Giddy Up! game where you roundup over 100 beautiful photographs of horses. This game is officially licensed by Our Generation Dolls. In the game you put out 4 awe inspiring photos of horses of all breeds and types. Then a card is flipped and a horse’s story is read. Players secretly decide which horse the story best matches. Then answers are compared and apples are collected.
The stories are cute, and the horse pictures are wonderful. If you or someone you know loves horses this game is the one for you. Giddy Up! is for ages 6 and older and is a great game for sleep overs and to play when you need a horse fix! We enjoy just looking through the cards and admiring the beautiful horses and trying to see how many breeds we can guess. Most young girls love horse, and would love this game!
With so many great games it will be hard to pick your favorite, so get a few. They make great gifts, and great memories of fun screen free family fun. Plus they are more affordable than taking everyone out to a movie. Most importantly they are a better way to spend time than mindlessly staring at a device or movie screen!
Which games will you use to get screen free family fun?
