Preparing for Baby When You’re a Working Mom-to-Be

September 8, 2019 by Pam Maynard

Having a baby is an exciting time in a woman’s life. With this excitement also comes a host of new worries. To alleviate this stress and anxiety, it is important to go in with a plan. Even if you are still working during your pregnancy, there are steps that you can take to prepare for a healthy pregnancy and smooth delivery. Here are three tips to help you prepare for a baby when you are a working mom-to-be.

Preparing for Baby When You’re a Working Mom-to-Be

Staying Healthy

Staying healthy while pregnant can be a challenge when you are working all day. Taking frequent breaks throughout the workday will help you to conserve energy. If you have a desk job, getting up every hour and going for a short walk around the office or outside will help you to avoid getting stiff and achy.

Be sure to pack along healthy snacks from home so that you do not have to resort to raiding the vending machine. It is also a good idea to bring a big water bottle to work and to refill as needed. Proper hydration during pregnancy will help to ward off nausea caused by morning sickness.

Financial

One of the biggest issues to consider when pregnant is the financial changes that having another member of the family will bring to your life. Be sure that you understand the maternity help through your insurance provider so that you know what your out of pocket costs will be. Your human resources staff will be able to provide you with the answers to all of your questions about your coverage.

If you do not receive paid maternity leave, you will need to figure out a budget so that you can decide how much time you can take off when the baby arrives. Set aside money for everything a baby will need the first few weeks if you can spend more time at home with the baby rather than making trips to the store.

Preparing for Baby When You’re a Working Mom-to-Be

Make a Checklist

Making a checklist of all of the things that you need before the baby is born will help you to stay organized and on top of everything. Understanding all that you need to have on hand will help to relieve stress and anxiety. Be sure to consider your own needs as well as the baby’s needs. For example, you will need items such as nursing pads and other personal items once the baby is born. Head on to an online store like Unique Baby Store so you can browse through and find baby essentials to add to your list.

The right research and planning will ensure that your pregnancy, delivery, and early infant stages go as smoothly as possible. Be sure to enjoy this special time in life as you prepare to welcome a new member into your family.
