Time for some Fall Cleaning and Decluttering!
As fall approaches, you’re likely looking for excuses to wear hoodies, make s’mores, and enjoy everything pumpkin spice. Additionally, you’re likely beginning to mentally prepare for the long winter ahead. As part of these preparations, you’ll want to do something unexpected: declutter your home. Though it’s not the most obvious fall preparation, it can be one of the most important. Here are a few reasons to get your home clutter-free before fall arrives.
Remove Summer Clothes
Summer brings with it its own unique wardrobe. From flip-flops to swimsuits, you likely have plenty of extra clothing items laying around. To get ready for bulkier fall clothing, then, it’s a good idea to go around your home and collect these summer-specific apparel items and get rid of those you didn’t use. There are probably many items you’ve thought about discarding but hesitated because you thought you would use them next year, but if you didn’t use them this summer, who’s to say you’ll use them the next? Make room for something you’ll actually wear, and get rid of those clothing items you won’t.
Donate to Worthy Causes
As fall draws near, so, too does the beginning of the holiday season. Think about what things you fill your house with that can be donated to those in need, especially in preparation for the winter months. One thing to remember is to donate for the upcoming season, so maybe save some of the summer clothes you’ve decided to get rid of until next year. By giving away items that may hold sentimental value but are no longer very useful, you’ll feel better about decluttering.
Match the Season
Fall is a season of simplicity. The weather is settled, the experiences are wholesome, and everything seems to settle into a pleasant routine. Why not allow your home to match the simplicity of the season, then, by decluttering your home? If you are able to get the job done just as summer is coming to a close, you’ll be able to fully participate in all the unique activities that only happen in the fall. Then, when you come home, you can continue the simplified feeling by enjoying all your decluttered space. You’ll also be able to better prepare for decorating for the holidays.
Find Lost Items
Summer is a time of indoor and outdoor living, when you may only have short periods when you’re actually at home. In the midst of the rush, you may find that many items come up missing. As fall approaches, though, once you get settled into your routine, your pace of life tends to slow down. That makes it a great time to clean and find all those lost items. Once you find these items, you can then decide whether or not they are worth keeping. And if you decide you don’t want certain objects in your house, but are not quite sure about giving them away, then you could always rent a personal storage unit to hold them until you can look over them again.
Don’t Wait
Whatever your reasons for end-of-summer decluttering, the important thing is that you get it done as soon as possible. You don’t want all the fall fun to pass you by because you procrastinated on decluttering your home. Get the job done so you can enjoy fall, enjoy a clean home, and enjoy the satisfaction of completing this major task.
