Settled into Your Home? 4 Inspections You Should be Completing

July 15, 2019 by Pam Maynard

When you move into a new home you will usually undertake a thorough home inspection which takes in the majority of parts of your home. Among the options you can explore is the work of home energy assessment services groups that can let you know where your home is failing to meet the environmental grade. Throughout the year, your home should be inspected for damage and the potential to impact your home and those of your neighbors.

The Annual Tree Inspection

Not every home has an exterior space or any trees, but those that do should be inspected annually by a certified arborist who can give a truthful report on the state of your landscape. A trained professional will examine your trees and identify any sick or diseased trees that should be treated. This annual inspection is usually completed in the spring when any damage can be identified and the tree removed before it becomes a hazard for properties in your area.

Inspect Your Roof

Better Homes and Gardens recommends completing an annual roofing inspection each spring after the worst of the winter frost has passed. During the cooler months of the year, a number of factors can affect your roofing system to cause leaks and even larger damage. As a homeowner, you have the ability to look at your own roofing system and check for loose or damaged roofing shingles and tiles. If you think your roof has been damaged over the course of the winter you should call in a professional to complete a thorough check.

Gutters Are Important

Have you ever considered how you keep your home safe from the problems of rainwater entering your property? A number of homes now include a guttering system across the underside of your roof designed to direct rainwater away from the walls, foundation, and roof of your property. To make sure your property stays safe and secure you should complete a spring check of your gutters with leaves and other objects blocking the system and halting the flow of water.

Check for Pests

When you are settled in your home you should make sure your property is safe from the issue of pests causing damage. In the summer, the chances of pests moving through your property are at their highest with the signs of carpenter ants and termites some of the most important to check for. This is another initial check you can undertake before contacting a professional to treat any affected areas.
