Do you know what happens when you have two amazing women graduating together from Harvard Law? … no, they don’t open their own practice! Instead, they start a major Fashion Project that changes thrift shop donations and purchasing forever!
I used to accept unwanted clothing from friends and neighbors to do a few things with them. They were sorted into groups: keep, sell, t-shirts (to make diaper inserts), and donate. Those that were to be sold were photographed and placed in a local group for sale AND it was exhausting! After my experience, I can’t imagine how these ladies do all that they are doing with the clothing that is donated to Fashion Project. Each piece is inspected, photographed, inventoried, paired up with a charity, and placed for sale. It may not sound like much, but it is a LOT of work! They do this with every – single – item – donated!
What I am most impressed with, is how amazing they can make donated clothing look. If you take a browse their online shop, you will quickly see how special each piece of clothing is to them. I would be surprised if our local thrift shop even washed the clothing before placing them on the hangers… this is why Fashion Project is where you want to buy your used clothing from! Okay, maybe this ISN’T why… I have an even better reason to tell you about!
When you purchase from your local thrift shop, do you have control over where the money is going? If you are like me, you likely choose your store based upon appearance, cleanliness, organization and price. I know I very seldom take into consideration where the proceeds are going at the end of the day. When I am shopping on Fashion Project, I can easily pay attention to who will receive the proceeds because it is noted under each item’s description. Take a look at what I mean:
My favorite shopping feature is that I can search by the charity I want to support. For example, if we wanted to focus our efforts towards helping Autism Speaks, I can select them from the Charity list filter and it shows me all of the items in the shop with proceeds going to them. (There are currently nineteen items in stock available for purchase with proceeds going to Autism Speaks!)
