Debunking the Stigma Surrounding Pit Bulls

April 27, 2019 by Pam Maynard

There’s arguably nothing in the world that a hug from your dog can’t cure. No matter how bad it gets, dogs are always there for their owners to make life a little bit easier and sweeter. They truly are man’s best friend and without them, many of us would feel lost.

Among the hundreds of dog breeds out there, pit bulls have got to be the most harshly and unjustly criticized. For some reason, people make the assumption that pit bulls are vicious and evil, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Before you rush to judgments about this dog breed, you should do a bit of research and read up about them. There are plenty of people out there that have positive feedback and there are whole communities that can give you the information you need.

Debunking the Stigma Surrounding Pit Bulls

The people at 2 Dogs Paws give you insight into this and other dog breeds in a comprehensive way. They offer information on everything from health tips to training tips, healthy feeding guides, gadgets for your dog, hygiene, grooming items, and so much more. It’s a great place to start where you can read blogs as well as find out more about pit bulls.

For now, though, let’s go over the myths and stigma surrounding pit bulls and have them debunked.

They have the strongest bite

One reason why many people fear pit bulls is the misconception that their bites are the strongest among any dog breed out there. This has been proven to be factually incorrect. In fact, some experiments have shown that pit bulls have the least strong bite among several other breeds. There also seems to be the belief that pit bulls are the number one cause of dog bites in the country, which is not correct and there are no reports supporting those claims, not reliable ones in any case.

Locking jaws

Another very common misconception is that pit bulls have locking jaws, in other words, once they bite onto something, it’d be impossible to free them because they locked their jaws. This is completely incorrect, as there is no scientific evidence to suggest their jaws work any different than any other dog breed. You should know this and more about your dog because knowing your dog means you won’t fear them or let anyone else fear them based on incorrect information.

Treacherous

Some people think that a pit bull can turn on its owner in any minute, which is also incorrect. Pit bulls are like any other dogs, if raised in a loving and caring environment, they’ll be the cuddly, lovable creatures that any dog has the potential to become if treated right. You can’t expect a dog raised in an unhealthy violent environment to be the same as one raised in a loving family, and this applies to all breeds, not just pit bulls.

They’re inherently dangerous

There’s this widespread belief that pit bulls are the most dangerous breed of dogs, which is also another false misconception. The problem is many people give away their pit bulls out of fear and concern, which leads to some pit bulls living on the streets in unfavorable conditions and they might eventually be dangerous. But the thing is, a husky can be as dangerous if put in similar conditions. So it’s not really about the breed of the dog, but rather their environment.

There is however a bad owner. It’s a safe bet that any dog displaying violent and aggressive behaviors has suffered at the hands of a bad owner. All dogs are kind, loving, loyal, and more importantly cuddly by nature, including pit bulls which are among the cutest and most loving breeds out there. It’s the conditions in which the dog is raised that make the dog turn up good or bad. So, if you’re considering getting a pit bull, definitely go for it, and as long as you provide a caring, loving home for them, they’ll love you until their death.
