As Moms, we tend to take care of everyone around us, but neglect ourselves. For this Mother’s Day, why not give yourself, or the other Moms in your life, a gift of self care? We’ve come up with a list of a few titles from The Experiment Publishing company. Each with ideas on how to care for our own well being. These would be great given in a basket or as a gift for Mother’s Day. After all, you have to take care of yourself too Mom!
About The Experiment Publishing
When we launched The Experiment in early 2009, we explained our name with this thought: Because every book is a test of new ideas.
Since then, we’ve been excited to see how the new ideas in our books have caught on. Most notably, Forks Over Knives: The Plant-Based Way to Health became our first #1 New York Times bestseller! Its sequel, Forks Over Knives—The Cookbook, is also a New York Times bestseller, and has more than 580,000 copies in print.
We look for books with one or more of the following qualities: They present highly proprietary information or a singular perspective. They are exceptionally useful, although sometimes in nonstandard ways. They address an urgent need on the part of readers—with regard to health, well-being, or simple curiosity. And they are competently written and distinctively voiced.
Moms are the glue that holds most families together. And while she’s busy caring for everyone around her, it can be easy to not pay attention to her own needs. Just like when they tell you on the airplane to fix your own oxygen mask first, then people around you. It’s the same concept really. By taking care of ourselves, we are better able to care for our loved ones. That’s why each one of these books can help us become less stressed, happier, and more aware of life in the moment.
Moments of Mindfulness
If you enjoy coloring, you really should look at Moments of Mindfulness. It’s this sweet, pocket sized book full of delicate and sweet drawings that are just waiting for color. It doesn’t matter whether you use crayons, pencils, markers, or pens, as long as you relax and enjoy the process. It’s a wonderful alternative to the busy parts of the day and it can be used almost anywhere. Simply tuck it into your purse with a pack of pencils or crayons, and use it whenever you need to be calm and relaxed. Moments of Mindfulness: A beautiful pocket sized book full of hand drawn pictures meant to be colored. Ease your mind and relax while creating your own small works of art.
Happiness Hacks and Healthy, Happy You
I really enjoyed following both Happiness Hacks and Healthy, Happy You at the same time. Happiness Hacks are tidbits of expert advice with an explanation behind the hack, such as keeping a date night every week. Why you should take 17 minute breaks; or why you should exercise to be happy. Nothing strange or difficult, but little things easy to implement into your daily life. Happiness Hacks: Scientifically backed hints and tricks to help you get and stay happy. Think of them as small daily shortcuts to make your life joyful.
And Healthy, Happy You is full of “micro-actions” with small, easily attainable goals for each day. It could be as simple as fixing a healthy snack for later in the day. Or recreate a childhood activity that you remember fondly to bring that joy forward. Moms can easily do both book’s activities at the same time! Healthy, Happy You: Take a few minutes every day to complete one of 365 small goals to become your healthier, happier self. They are broken in 4 categories such as food, mind, mood, and love.
Dot Journaling: Learn how to keep and use a dot journal to make lists, schedule, and stay on track of your goals
Another great idea to help life go smoothly is by learning about Dot Journaling. Using bound grid paper, you can make lists, keep a schedule, track your habits and goals, all without having to fit it in a template. The book gives you some styling ideas but you can lay it out however you’d like! You can easily take it with you anywhere as it has a sturdy cover and an elastic band to keep it shut. This idea works great with the Breathe, Mama, Breathe book as it helps you relax and see the present with a happy heart, with exercises taking less than 5 minutes a day. Dot Journaling: Learn how to keep and use a dot journal to make lists, schedule, and stay on track of your goals. Included is a 208 page journal to use as you’re learning the process.
Breathe, Mama, Breathe
Breathe, Mama, Breathe: It’s easy to get lost in the day to day tasks of being a busy Mom. Learn how to take 5 minutes a day to soothe your mind, relax, and enjoy the moments while you’re in them. I don’t know about you, but my day can spin out of control in a heartbeat. This book is a great way to get re-centered, calmed, and back on track in just five minutes. Being involved and connected with my family is so important. I have enjoyed the tips and thoughts on how to handle everything from the bus stop drama to really being intentional in the little moments in our lives.
The Ayurvedic Self-Care Handbook
The last book I would suggest to help you take care of yourself too Mom would be The Ayurvedic Self-Care Handbook. They provide you with 100 daily and seasonal rituals and processes to help address your mental and physical well being. These activities include yoga for stress and pain relief; breathing exercises to clear your mind, and even some recipes. The author wants the reader to know she can promote healing and self-care by completing these activities in 10 minutes every day. The Ayurvedic Self-Care Handbook: This book contains over 100 holistic self healing Ayurvedic rituals to help relieve stress, ease pain, and help you journal.
Each one of these titles will bring peace and joy to all of us Moms, I bet. Even just taking the small amount of time to read and follow the suggested activities would be a great start! Keep these in a quiet place to enjoy every day. And if they are a Mother’s Day gift, consider packaging them in a basket or gift bag along with some pretty soap, a new candle, or something comforting to drink. Remember to take care of yourself too Mom so you can take care of your family around you.
