Get Your Home in Shape this Spring
The harsh winter weather is finally breaking, and many people are focusing on the newness of spring. While it’s hard to think of cleaning with all the sunshine and pleasant temperatures happening outside, the much used inside needs a once over. Wiping down walls, cleaning tubs and sinks, and organizing drawers, are routine parts of spring cleaning, but here are a few things you might have missed.
HVAC Tune-Up
Your HVAC system will get quite the workout with the summer temperatures. It’s essential to have a professional conduct a preventative maintenance session on this unit. The filter needs to be changed as well as the refrigerant topped off. They will examine the unit for any leaks or other service problems that can cause an interruption when you need it most. Because this unit is often out of sight and out of mind, it’s one of the most neglected spring-cleaning items.
Drain Cleaning
Drain cleaning is an important part of your home maintenance. Once a year, drains need to be cleaned and inspected to ensure proper function. During this inspection, a plumber can identify cracks and broken pipes that you may not be aware of. They can also fix slow drains and other clogged pipes too. The harsh winter temperatures can be quite problematic on your pipes, so you want to make sure they are ready for summer.
Cleaning behind the Appliances
Why is it that the dust and debris behind the appliances often go unnoticed? At least once per year, you need to pull out these appliances and give the dark areas a good cleaning. A stove is a place that is primarily known for collecting grease and dirt. If these areas are let go, it can cause problems with spring pests like ants and roaches, specifically where there are grease and food debris.
Dust Blinds
The mini blinds collect quite a bit of dust over the fall and winter months. There are fancy dusters that can go in-between each of the slats to wipe away the dirt. If the blinds have broken slats, cracks, or they won’t open and close properly, then it may be time to replace them. Since most big box stores carry them for under $10 each, then it’s easy to see that it’s quite economical to replace the worn-out ones. Some people will put their blinds in the bathtub with a little bleach to preserve them for another year.
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a major undertaking if you do a little bit all year long. However, some things are better done when the windows can be opened, and the sun is shining inside. When you make your cleaning list this year, make sure you include the four items listed above.
