London is one of the most magical cities that you will ever visit in your lifetime. It is one of those places that is often muttered in the same sentence as Paris, New York, Berlin or Tokyo and it rightly deserves its place among these amazing world cities. Not only is it a great city to live in, but one that equally as good to visit. Here are some of the reasons why you will absolutely love to visit!
The neighbourhoods
Thinking of the neighbourhoods in London, you truly have a wide variety of places to explore. Picking a great neighbourhood should be your first priority when thinking of where to stay in London because it can make all the difference. The options are really endless, you can base yourself in the beautiful white stucco neighbourhoods of west London or go for a warehouse building or loft in gritty east London. The neighbourhoods also have their own distinct flair and features that many love. In Shoreditch you have markets, boutique shops and great places to eat, whereas in Chelsea you have beautiful restaurants, museums and many places to see. Each neighbourhood is unique and we highly recommend walking around and getting lost, you are sure to find one that you like. All areas are easy to access from the airport via coach hire in London or the public transport system such as the world famous tube.
The architecture
We all know that iconic skyline that makes London so unique, but it’s the architecture all around that truly makes it special. London is quite literally a walk in time when it comes to architecture, especially because many buildings are protected and cannot be modified from their original forms. This means that you can see all kinds of periods of architecture history in London. From modern, art deco, Georgian, Edwardian to a whole host of others, London is an amazingly well preserved place in terms of architecture.
The people
London has the advantage of being one of the most multicultural cities on the entire planet. London has been the city of migration for quite a long time. In the early 20th century, many people from Jamaica, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh came to the city. This has heavily influenced the culture of the city, in particular with the food (which we will come to shortly). Londoners are an interesting people to watch, they are always very polite, but always very busy and in a hurry to get to where they need to go.
The food
London is not just a great city, it has some amazing food too. From fast food burgers to high end restaurants, there’s something for everyone. One favourite place to visit for food is one of the many markets, because there is always something really great to eat. A personal favourite is Borough Market because you can eat some amazing street food from a number of different countries or enjoy some oysters. The huge diversity of London also means that there are many Indian, West Indian, Pakistani and other restaurants to enjoy. West Indian food is one of always a favourite with its home cooked classics like delicious jerk chicken or mutton curry.
