Moving into your first place as an adult can be quite the adventure! Yes, it’s full of excitement and picking out everything you’ll need but it’s also a new experience, especially living on your own for the first time. I know when I moved into my first apartment, my Dad came over and made sure all the windows and doors locked and were secure, wanting me to be safe of course. But now, there are more options to help keep our loved ones safe, even in their own home. How about giving peace of mind for Valentine’s Day this year with the Connect Plus System? I’ll share with you my experience with the product and how we put it to use!

AHS616 Connect Plus System
Recently, one of my daughters moved out into her first apartment. Besides the “normal” worries that every mother has, I was also concerned about a young girl living on her own, coming and going by herself. While I am proud of her taking this big life step, her Dad and I want to help make sure she’s as safe as we can make it, while still letting her enjoy the freedom of being an adult.
We decided to try a security system. It had to be easy to install, come with a remote or smartphone app, and allow multiple notifications in case of an emergency. We found all of these “must haves” and more with the Connect Plus System from ALC.
Everything is Included
The home security system comes with everything you need to get started, including a control hub, sensors, siren, motion detector, power switch, and a remote control.
Don’t worry, you can always buy more pieces if you need to get more windows or doors covered, or add a camera like the one we did directly from their website or on Amazon! The camera is small enough to place just about anywhere and not be noticed. We have ours under the television and from that position it can view the entire main area of the apartment.
Easy to Install
It was easy to install without having to own a lot of tools which most people don’t have right away. Following the instructions, we were able to get everything set up and running in less than an hour. It probably wouldn’t have even taken that long, but we decided to do some measuring to make sure their dog wouldn’t set off the alarm while they weren’t home or that it wouldn’t catch the people walking by the window if it was facing in that direction.
Since my daughter lives in an apartment, it was important that we didn’t leave a bunch of holes that would have to be repaired when she moves out. That’s one of the reasons the peel-and-stick sensors were a breeze to install! And once they were in place, they are set until you have to move out.
Loud Indoor Siren
The indoor siren is not only ear piercing, which is great to draw attention from the neighbors if you need help, but it also has a flashing light equipped that activates when the alarm sounds. It’s set to go off when one of the door or window sensors is breached or the motion sensor is triggered when the alarm is set to away mode. And that’s another thing, you can set the alarm to 3 different modes: Armed (away), Armed (stay), and Disarmed (off). This way she can set it to “away” when she leaves for work and no one should be in her apartment, but then use the “stay” mode for when she’s home at night and moving around, but still wants the doors and windows to be protected.
App Controlled
The entire system can be monitored and controlled by either the control hub that’s inside the apartment itself, with a remote control, or by using the free ALC Connect Plus App on your Apple or Android smartphone or tablet!
This is a nice feature, especially when you’re away from home and just want to check in. It is nice to be able to make sure that everything is safe at home, whether at work or even when you’re out of town. And if there is an alarm being set off, you can choose to get push notifications on your phone or tablet or have them emailed to you (or whoever you add to the alert system).
I love that I can be notified in case there are any problems so I can reach out to her if the alarm isn’t turned off quickly without having to call in a panic each time. And she can control the whole thing from her phone!
Self Monitoring Unit
Now, this isn’t a professionally monitored system like other units; it won’t trigger the police or fire department on it’s own. I think the siren will usually scare off any trouble makers, while also letting your whole neighborhood know something’s going on at your home. Plus you get the alert on your phone or tablet and can call the police if someone’s messing with your home and you’re not home. You do need to have internet already installed to be able to use the system. That is how the pieces communicate with each other and the control hub. Like I mentioned before, there are other pieces that are made to add on to the beginning system, like cameras, additional sensors and remotes, and more.
Peace of Mind
So whether you’re moving into a new place and want an extra layer of security, or a loved one is moving out on their own for the first time, be sure to get that peace of mind for Valentine’s Day that will last the whole year round! And the ALC Connect Plus System is a breeze to install with just a few steps and you can even take it with you to your next home, or upgrade to fit your specific needs.
