About Precious Moments
The creator of Precious Moments, Sam Butcher began drawing his teardrop-eyed children more than three decades ago. Then in 1970 with a friend, Bill Biel, they began a company to produce his Precious Moments on a line of posters and cards. These items were sold at a Christian event, and the orders were so large they needed help from other vendors to write the orders. Next Enesco Corporation approached Sam to create a porcelain three dimensional figure, which led to a collection of thousands of pieces. Now new art which combines his heartfelt emotions and abiding faith are added yearly.
Precious Moments is truly achieving goals set forth by its mission statement: to make the world a better place by helping others share the gift of love.
Growing up I spent a lot of time looking at my mom’s china cabinet full of sweet, smiling Precious Moments figurines. She had so many and every one was so pretty with its muted colors and precise detail. The big eyes and smiles of the people, convey such feeling. Plus my mom had some snow globes that were the seasons, and lots of holiday events and such as well. There was a beautiful nativity and a wedding couple complete with a flower girl and ring bearer. My favorite was a girl in a bubble bath full of iridescent bubbles.
I was very happy when I began to receive Precious Moments for my birthday and other occasions. I have the cutest collection of animals and kids. That was all many years ago, but the memories are still vivid! Even today I have a lovely mom and a baby to commemorate when I became a mom. This year I was able to add two sweet romantic Precious Moments to my collection: We’re the Perfect Blendand You’re the Only Fish in My Sea
Mom’s Thoughts
Both of these two figurines are so special, and really express love. The “We’re the Perfect Blend” one has the two people sitting at a bistro table. She has on cute sandals, and a cute purse. They are not drinking their coffee because they only have eyes for one another. I love with an intensity just like that, and this piece expresses that since words just cannot suffice.
The two in “You’re the Only Fish In My Sea” are adorable! The way she is holding his face to kiss him, perfectly conveys how deep their love is. It is such a sweet moment preserved in time. The details on and around the boat such as the life preserver that has a heart shape to it, and the little fish are darling! When I look at these Precious Moments on my shelf it gives me a warm feeling of love every time!
