Elevate Your Game Nights #Sweet2019

February 3, 2019 by Sherryl Wilson

While the holidays may be over, we are just getting into the cold winter months here in Kentucky. Our family enjoys getting together weekly for an evening of games, food and fun. We’ve added several new games to elevate our game nights and I think the adults enjoy them more than the kids.
Elevate Your Game Nights

University Games

Founded by Bob Moog and Cris Lehman. Bob and Cris always loved playing games with their families, and grew up thinking that fun and learning were a part of everyday life. As adults, they recognized a developing niche in social interaction and learning games for adults and children, and that is how University Games began on April 1, 1985. The company philosophy has always been to offer games that encourage social interaction and imagination through gameplay, with learning sprinkled in to season the game.

Chickapig

First launched as a grassroots board game in 2016 by game creator Brian Calhoun (of Rockbridge Guitar) and musician Dave Matthews. Due to the game’s immediate broad appeal and original quirkiness, Chickapig quickly evolved into a full-fledged brand. It appeals to a wide range of people, from children and their parents, to millennials who play games in a group. Chickapig has been nominated for 2019 Toy of the Year, as well as being a Recommended By Mensa Mind Games winner.

Chickapig

Can you get your flock of Chickapigs free while avoiding your opponents, hay bales, and a pooping cow? Strategy at its finest.

My Thoughts:

Because we are a large family, our weekly game night has always been full of laughter and challenges. That said, I have to admit that with the new games we added to our collection, the hoots and shouts coming from the adult game table far exceeded the silliness coming from the children’s table.
Elevate Your Game Nights
The tabletop shuffle board game takes far more skill than I expected. Colton and I have played for hours and hours and we still both yell with excitement and frustration when we score or knock each other off the board. He has to sing “Granma’s the Champion” when I beat him! Between you and me, he is getting better at it since he has to sing it a lot!
Elevate Your Game Nights
Another game that we can all play with just a few modifications is Sculptapalooza. When the adults are playing, this game has everyone laughing and yelling out answers. The crazy creations that are made in the speed sculpting are so funny.
Elevate Your Game Nights
Now when the little ones are playing, we change it up a little and let them sculpt what they want and we have to guess what it is. I admit that I am impressed at some of the creations the little ones come up with..and actually look like what they say it is!
Elevate Your Game Nights
Finally, those that usually gather around the chess or checker boards are now teaming up to play Chickapig. Talk about a silly but challenging game of strategy and well..just strange fun. Each team needs to get their flock of Chickapigs across the board to safety. Easier said than done with a pooping cow and other obstacles in your path. Needless to say the degree of laughter and craziness changes when the adults challenge each other without the little ones around. I mean, how crazy is it to have a cow pooping in your path!
Elevate Your Game Nights
These games have elevated the fun and laughter of family game nights. Who cares how cold it is outside when we are enjoying family and fun.

If you are looking at adding games to your family game night cabinet, especially games the adults will also enjoy playing; you can find the Table Top Shuffleboard, Sculptapalooza, and Chickapig on Amazon.
