Any child will tell you they do not like following the rules. And in all honesty, who does? Thankfully, Art is one of those areas of study where we can encourage free interpretation and allow children to let their thoughts wander as they create. Hatch Kids Art Kits have everything needed for hours of fun. They are only missing one thing… directions! Yes, their kits specifically state there are NO directions.
Hatch Modern
Hatch is freedom, exploration, innovation, self-expression. It offers safe, clean and free-range art for children. Our art kits are full of possibilities, joy and healthy child development. Hatch invites children beyond crafts to a place where anything is possible. FREE RANGE ART™ – Children learn through the hands-on process of exploring. The process of making art helps children grow and learn. Free range art encourages children to roam, explore and express themselves, unfettered by step-by-step directions and a pre-determined outcome. ECO ART – Our art materials are thoughtfully selected to support the health of the planet. We say no way to single use plastics, and use non-toxic, natural, vegan, recycled, upcycled, cruelty-free and clean art materials to the greatest extent possible.

My Thoughts:
As a homeschool family, we do have a lot of rules and regulations since we spend 24/7 together. So making time for the little ones to just be “little ones” and let their imaginations run free; takes a little more planning on my part. However, the results are so worth it!
We have been enjoying the kits from Hatch Kids. Each of their three (3) kits encourages children to just let their imagination take over as they create a craft. I admit, I have a hard time not following directions. Yes, I am one of those that takes the directions and actually counts all the parts, and divides the screws into length to makes sure I have everything before I start. So these kits did make me a little nervous when I first opened them and told Colton and Allie to just have fun. They could make anything they wanted and could only ask for help IF they didn’t know what something was in the box.
After they both stared at me for a minute, a grin came over their faces. I opened the Print Box which includes child safe paint, brush, paper, cork, and a sea sponge. They both knew what to do with the paint brush but the cork and sponge had them stumped.
Once they figured out how to use the supplies, they had a blast. We have art work hanging on the fridge and each of them made a special gift for Dad to have framed for his desk at work.
The other current boxes from Hatch Kids Art Kids are the Build Box which as various wooden shapes, paint, brushes, wood spools, and child safe glue to create what ever they dream up; and the Collage Box which includes buttons, sea shells, child safe glue, paper, tissues and fabric squares to use to create a collage.
Any of these boxes would make great gifts this holiday season.
Encouraging our children to use their imagination and to create their own interpretation helps them grow to appreciate that even subtle differences in approaches can yield significantly different results. Right now, these kits can be purchased individually and in 2019 the plan is to set up a monthly subscription box service.
