List of Supplies:
- Felt fabric – 5-6 different colors
- Pencil or pen – for tracing the template
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Cotton – for stuffing
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1:
Trace the patterns from the template on the selected felt fabric and cut them out nicely. Use different colors for the bulb pattern, white felt for the shadow and black felt for the wire.
Step 2:
Prepare white thread and needle. Simply do cross stitch to attach the white shadow on any one of the bulb cut outs.
Step 3:
Place the 2 bulb patterns together, making sure that all sides of both cut outs are matched. Keep the white stitched part of the bulb cut out facing out.
Step 4:
Prepare matched (with the felt) thread and needle. Start to stitch the 2 pieces together around the sides. I did flat blanket stitch around the sides.
Step 5:
Remember to keep a small opening between the 2 bulb cut outs for stuffing.
Step 6:
Insert a small amount of cotton through the opening to give the felt bulb a fluffy look.
Step 7:
Stitch the open end after you are done stuffing. Tie 2 knots and then insert the needle from one end to any random end of the felt; and then draw the remaining thread all the way to the other end. Cut off extra thread once done.
Step 8:
Similarly prepare more felt light bulbs. Use different bright colored felt fabrics to make the bulbs.
Step 9:
Stitch the bulbs on the black felt strip (the wire) using black thread.
Done!
Be sure to pin for later! This is a great craft to do with your kids that are learning to sew. It’s great for hand-eye coordination!
