With all of the technology and electronics that everyone owns, it can be hard to get a good night’s sleep. Even I feel the call from my smart phone on the bedside table, calling me to check the latest status updates, play another round of my current game app, or watch videos about funny animals. But my eye doctor reminds me at every appointment to make sure that if I’m going to use my smartphone, tablet, or even watch TV in the evening, I need to try to block the blue light coming from the screen.
Now, some of my new gadgets may have a blue light filter option that I can turn on and off, but not everything has this feature yet. And sometimes, I need to work right up to my bedtime to keep up with my busy schedule. So what can I do to save my eyesight while also getting a good night’s sleep? Discover how I learned to sleep better with Swannies.
Our kids are almost inseparable from iPhones, iPads, computer and TV screens, video games … and with so much screen time in today’s world, their eyes are being exposed to an exceptionally large amount of dangerous, high-energy blue light.
Blue light reaches deeper into the eye. Studies suggest that, over time, exposure to blue light could cause serious long-term damage to your eyes. This can include eye fatigue, headaches, poor sleep, diabetes, obesity – even cancer.
Adult eyes have a natural defense: as we age the lens starts to yellow, which then acts to block out some of the blue light. But children’s eyes are still developing. So blue light is able to penetrate much more efficiently and directly into a child’s retina.
Blue light is especially disastrous at night because it prevents your body from creating melatonin, which helps you sleep. Scientists say artificial light, particularly blue light, fools the brain into thinking it’s still daytime.
Swannies blue light blocking glasses protect your kids by filtering out harmful artificial light from digital devices. Wearing these FDA-registered glasses at least an hour before bed allows your child to use phones, tablets, computers and e-readers freely without disrupting their sleep and damaging their eyes.

Protect your children’s eyes and help them sleep better with these kids Swannies. Kids Neon Swannies are recommended for children under eight (8) years of age. They are available in several colors.
These glasses are available in black and tortoise design with lenses for night or daytime usage. Wearing these blue light blocking glasses protects the eyes and blocks the stimulation from screen time before bed which can lead to restless sleeping.
Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from our electronics, whether it’s the TV, computer, or even a video game system that my whole family enjoys spending time playing with. And yes, sometimes we may watch or play long after dinner is over and bedtime approaches. But as my kids get older, I try to loosen up on how late they can play games or watch TV shows as long as their chores are done and homework is finished. And even for me, sometimes I want to curl up and read a book on my e-reader until I’m ready to fall asleep. But I also know that the blue light that comes from the screens can not only damage your eyesight in the long run, but they can also mess up your natural sleep cycle. And I have enough problems going to sleep as it is.
I heard about these glasses that help you sleep, and I was confused, but intrigued. Not only could I order a pair for myself, but also my husband as well as my children. They are called Swannies, which are terrific frames with special lenses that filter out the blue light. I picked out a few frames and we’re trying them out, especially within the hour before bedtime like the company suggests. They have several styles of frames to choose from, including crystal frames and even cat eye styles! And for the kids, they have plain frames or even a few hot colors, like the red ones we ordered. Swannies even come in styles that can fit over your prescription eye wear!
We keep these glasses wherever it’s most convenient for us to remember where we put them. For me, I keep them by the bed since that’s where I need them most often. The kids usually keep them on their school desks, so they can grab them after dinner if they need to use them. We usually start putting them on around 9 o’clock, since bedtimes tend to start within an hour after that. It takes a few times wearing them to stop noticing too big of a difference in the color of the picture.
