How to you teach a child to express their feelings? Feelings, especially for younger children can be hard for them to express with their limited experience and vocabulary. That’s why we introduce music and movement to our children when they are little. Learning songs that are encouraging help them to understand the value of others and expressing themselves through movement provides an outlet for them to show others how they are feeling.
We have been enjoying several CDs and booklets that are both encouraging and entertaining. Each of the artists bring something unique to their music that children can relate to and understand. From a new spin on old classics to learning about what to expect on the first day of school; these Cds will have your little ones singing and dancing along in no time.

Building Blocks – Tim Kubart
Building Blocks, the fifth album by Tim Kubart, is all about growing: growing wiser, growing bolder, and, above all, growing our circle of caring for family, friends, and those around us.
My favorite songs on this CD are Bigger and Day One. Bigger is about how each birthday marks the growth in size and knowledge. Day One is about the first day of school and the feelings that a child might experience.

“The Hummingbird Sings and Dances: Latin American Lullabies and Nursery Rhymes”
Most kids are learning a second language these days and it’s so much easier to teach them when they are young! We are learning Spanish right now, and any time I can introduce songs and rhymes, my kids catch on quick. This is a collection of 19 nursery rhymes and songs in Spanish to help our children learn about another language as well as several other countries. A great resource for multi-lingual families today.

My Thoughts:
Music plays a huge roll in our lives. Between the little ones learning their ABCs to the hours and hours spent on various musical instruments, our children all love to use music to express their feelings. I love how children have such a tender heart and can share their feelings while enjoying their songs. We have used the words in the songs to teach caring for others and why its important to take care of each other.
This set of CDs is also about sharing feelings. The artists have used melodies that are easy to follow and almost a sing song pattern so your little ones can’t help but enjoy.
Music has always been a great way to express feelings, and it certainly is great for motivating us. These CDs cover a wide range of topics..but they are all encouraging and uplifting – and made for children. With all the commercials and shows fighting for our attention, these CDs would be a good musical introduction or addition to your children’s music library this holiday season. The messages are focused on family and caring for each other (as well as for those around us)..and isn’t that what the season is all about?
We’ve added all of these great artists to our 2018 MEGA Merry Christmas Gift Guide! Check it out here!
