Our family loves to have fun and play games. We spend plenty of time on electronics, so we like to break out the table games a few nights a week if schedules allow for it. And having a wide range of ages with my children, sometimes it can present a challenge to find games that the entire family can play. That’s one of the reasons that we’re learning skills and having fun with RoosterFin Games, they offer something for everyone!
About RoosterFin Games
RoosterFin was founded in 2011 by Joe. It was then that he and Kate started this adventure together. They traveled around the United States visiting toy store after toy store to distribute Joe’s games. Then, with the help of Joe’s sister Christine, they picked up the phones, spoke to store owners, and found those willing to take a chance on product from this new, unknown game company. Each year since, RoosterFin has reached more people and produced more simple-to-learn, easy-to-play educational games. Joe and his family hope RoosterFin games become a part of your family traditions. He says, “From our family to yours – have fun always!”
Products:
- Mighty Pig Tug – What a wild and crazy game of pig tug-of-war. Pigs, large and small, come together to test their strength against other pig teams in competitions. Each player works to build the best three-pig team possible, but watch out, yours pigs can be quickly pulled into the mud and lost.
- Monkeys Up – Go bananas as you work to earn the best score by flipping, switching, and taking monkeys from the other players. Each monkey is worth a different value which you won’t know until you look under his feet! It’s a fast paced and laughter filled game as you race to get the highest score with your monkeys standing up proudly.
- Ninja Squirrels – Act like a squirrel with made ninja skills as you match your acorns by color and store them for the upcoming winter! A card is flipped over and the first squirrel to snatch the matching colored acorn wins the nut. The squirrel with the most acorns wins the game!
- Rabbit Pirates – Another take on the classic game of War. You are helping one of four Rabbit Pirates “shoot for the loot”. You want to win the treasure tokens on the treasure maps. The Rabbit Pirate with the most loot wins!
My Thoughts
Having a large family means we are usually pretty busy. There’s always a ball game, practice, choir show, family event, you name it. But there are times when most of us are home and I don’t want us just to sit in front of the TV or go to our separate rooms! So this Mom is always ready to break out a board game to play at the dining room table with as many of the kids as I can! As I mentioned, we have a wide age range to cover, so it can’t be too simple or too complicated so that most of the kids can play together. This means games that don’t have too many rules or advanced reading skills involved.
Game night isn’t about just having fun as a family either, the kids also get to work on several skill sets depending on which game they are playing. Like with Mighty Pig Tug, they work on the skills of logic and strategy. Not only can they use these skills in other games, but also later in life. This is pigs playing tug of war, building the best three pig team to win. But it’s not just snatching the best or highest card because luck is a tricky thing and pigs can fall in the mud after all. I love that it has simple instructions which makes it easy to pick up and play, plus it can be played with 2-6 players and is great for any age range.
Rabbit Pirates has quickly become a big hit around here. Every one of my kids learn the card game of War pretty young, so they already had the basis of this game under their belt. You help your character find the highest valued loot to win the game. This is another game that teaches strategy and logic, which helps even the playing field as well. The family tends to get loud with this game simply because it’s exciting as the cannons are fired and the players win or lose, getting closer to the end goal. Plus, the pirate accents are hysterical, especially when the adults join in! This game is suited for 2-4 players, but it could be done as teams if you had more players or perhaps needed to match younger kids with an older partner to learn for the first few rounds.
What kids don’t like monkeys? With Monkeys Up, you are trying to get the higher value monkeys to flip over. You can steal from others, switch them around, and make it fun and exciting for the whole group as you work to win the game. Again, the rules are easy to follow and even the youngest of my crew can play with the big kids once they get the basics down pat. Memory is a big skill in this game, and I’m always surprised at how even the youngest in the group can remember where certain high value monkeys wind up. The instructions note this game is meant for 2-6 players, ages 6 and up.
And the last game that has made it to our game shelf is Ninja Squirrels. Yep, squirrels who sneak around, trying to find acorns to store for the upcoming winter. They are sneaky and fast! You have to match the color on the card with the acorn first to win the nut! This is a great way to build up color identification and motor skills while going for the win. It’s easily played with 2-4 players and can go pretty quickly, depending on how fast the players make their moves. And because there is little reading involved, even the younger kids and grandkids can jump in to play with everyone else.
It always warms my heart to hear and watch my kids play together. Even when they have friends or other family members over to our house, I love how often they go for the game cabinet and start breaking out some of these family friendly board games from RoosterFin Games. Most of them are played with fairly easy to follow rules and go pretty quick, so another player can join in or a a different game is brought out. I’d recommend any or all of these games for your own game collection so your family can work on learning skills and having fun with RoosterFin Games like we do!
