Then plenty of us carried brown paper bags (no shame) that would get wet and tear and you had to carry the whole thing to the cafeteria. My Thoughts
One of the ways that we try to control our monthly spending is by keeping a budget to track our monthly income and spending. One of the ways my husband and I agreed to save money was to pack our lunches on work days. Usually these consist of leftovers from dinner the night before (I make 2 extra servings of dinner just for this purpose) or the occasional sandwich or salad. And then we will add a baggie of fruit or maybe some chips or crackers, depending on what we have on hand.
For a long time, we just carried a soft sided cooler so we didn’t have to worry about finding room in the fridge at our work places. But these are large and bulky, and hard to carry along with a laptop bag or other work items we haul back and forth every day into the office. And I didn’t want to carry a child’s lunch box, or send my husband to work with a hand-me-down from our kids! But then I got the opportunity to try the “bento” style lunch box from Vaya. Oh happy day!
The original idea behind the Vaya Tyffyn is based on 100 year old technology from India when workers would take small stackable tins of lunch with them to work. They are still in use today, made of stainless steel and carried in insulated cases to stay hot or cold. And that’s the idea behind the Vaya Tyffyn, available in several sizes and many colors/designs!
I ordered the Tyffyn 1000 in Gold with a BagMat. It’s very sleek and modern looking without being too flashy, too feminine, or for younger folks. The three tins have a copper metal finish, each with a well fitting lid, several dividers, and all made to fit neatly in a locking case to keep them upright and warm or cold for up to 5 hours. The lids have a finger grip built in, so in case the metal is hot to the touch, you can still remove the lid to enjoy your meal.
There are several sizes to choose from, depending on if you want to bring several small containers, or one large and one small, and even just a large container for items like soup or a single pot meal! The seal is built into the units so you don’t have to take it out to wash the tins. And the carrying case locks down on both sides, using pressure to seal in the heat or cold, while keep the tins upright. There’s a carrying handle on the top that folds down for easy storage.
And how do we carry this adorable tin around? In the Vaya BagMat! It’s a zippered shoulder bag that lets you carry your lunch hands-free and then unzips and lays flat to provide a clean table mat to enjoy your food on! There’s a place to carry silverware and a napkin and in case of any spills, it wipes up easily. Then when you’re done, you zip your tins back up and carry it back to your desk or out to the car to go home.
We also got to check out the Vaya Drynk, an insulated cup that helps keep your favorite drinks hot or cold for several hours. They come in a number of colors and designs, and we ordered one in purple and one in graphite. These come with a regular “sipping” lid which closes tight to keep you free of spills, but then can also be swapped out for the “gulper” lid which makes your tumbler more like a canteen. It includes two small cups so you can share your drink with a friend without having to drink after each other.
So now we can take our sleek lunch boxes from Vaya along with our insulated Drynk cups to work proudly, without looking silly or having to buy lunch every day which adds up quick. I appreciate how I can pack small snacks or different pieces of a meal without having to keep up with a bunch of containers. And it keeps my soup or pasta warm without having to wait for a microwave to come open. Or fight for space in the community fridge. They are stylish, sleek, functional, and fun to show off!
