I have a family full of book lovers, so it’s not weird to catch most, if not all, of us with a book in our hands on any given day. During the summer though, we tend to get busy with other things whether that’s sports, music lessons, family gatherings, etc. Or what if you’re looking for a few titles to enjoy together as a family? Well, with help from Ulysses Press, we’ve put together a list for some family fun with summer reading!

My Thoughts:
In today’s busy life, where everything it seems is electronic, it’s great when I find books that can entertain my family. Whether we hang out on the couch and read our own books, or read out loud and enjoy a family story, I like being able to see everyone’s face and not the top of their heads. We all have different interests, so the topics will range from mystery and true crime, to graphic novels and super heroes, and even jokes and fairy tales for the youngest. With this group of titles from Ulysses Press, we’ve been able to enjoy several of these subjects, both on our own and together.
I think my husband and I enjoyed the Griddle Cookbook the most as it allowed us both to work on a new skill set while fixing delicious meals for our family. I loved how clear the recipes were along with the images to make the steps more clear to the reader. And the Busy Bag idea book was terrific for the youngest in my crew as we would make up bags for them to take as we ran errands, waited at appointments, or even traveled around the country this summer.
And the baseball math game was great since it had puzzles and quizzes, related to baseball, to solve while using various math skills. This is also the same set of children who enjoyed getting their family members cracking up with jokes and puns they would get from Born to Pun.
Finally, the Calligraphy for Kids was a little daunting at first, but with a little practice, this lettering style became smooth and pretty. I was impressed since it’s not a skill I ever learned, but with the step by step instructions, they were able to master it over the summer. Each book offered a look at a new topic or set of jokes which seemed to be “just right” for at least one member of the family. I’ll be sure to hang on to these titles since several of them contain recipes or project ideas which we can continue to use in the future.
