What do you enjoy doing as a family? We love to spend time together and are always on the look out for something new and exciting. Most times we play board games or go to the movies. Other times we have skated and done museums together. This time we were able to strut our artistic talents with a awesome experience called Paint Nite. All five of us got to paint a canvas with sunflowers in a starry sky. It was fun and had us laughing a good chunk of the time.
About Paint Nite
Paint Nite was founded by Daniel Hermann and Sean McGrail in March 2012. They sought to provide creative social experiences that would put a new spin on a night out. Here guests could create art and terrariums over cocktails at a local bar or venue, guided by an entertaining host. Now Paint Nite is expanding and offers all ages Paint Nites. These events provide families with an experience that focuses on artistic pursuits promoting creative family time.
About All Ages
These interactive experinces are hosted in over 300 venues in over 100 markets across 40 states and provinces in the U.S and Canada. Rest assured the paint is kid-friendly and washable. The hosts are engaging and trained to teach with a flare for fun. The subject matters will attract both young and old, and the instructions are easy to follow. Plus many events are held on weekends or in the afternoon to be more family friendly.
Our Paint Nite
Our Paint Nite was held in a bowling alley. We went into a nice room away from the noise, and sat at tables with canvases lined up. Then the host brought us a paper plate with blue and black paint and a sponge. We were able to easily follow along and do the background of our paintings.
Flower Time
Once the background was dry, we were given another plate with yellow, red, and white paint. As well as two brushes. The host told us to draw a flower and so on and so forth. He did everything on his canvas to show us how and would bring it around to make sure we could all see it. At this point the laughter was very present. One guy said his flower looked like a turkey. The host was joking that some of us must never have seen a flower before. As we looked around we laughed at our own attempts and others too. It was all fun laughter and there was no malice. Many people were complimenting others and trying to be uplifting. The sense of community was very touching.
Mom’s Thoughts
After two hours we all had lovely works of art to take home with us. I like the fact that you have the memories, but also the art to remind you of the fun experience. I have wanted to do this for a while, and was so happy I did. The whole family loved it even though the guys grumbled a bit when I told them we were going. I think they had more fun then they could have ever imagined. Whether you are artistic or not, there is something soothing and wonderful about painting. I gave my picture to my mother who loves sunflowers, and she absolutely adored it. My kids gave me their pictures and I hung them in our house. Therefore not only were they fun to make, they were great gifts for others.
