Enjoy Family Fun Without a Plug #MDRsummerfun

July 31, 2018 by Sherryl Wilson

Every summer, school is out and the days get longer. Sure, we also have more activities and sports to enjoy, but when the family is home and together, I hate just seeing the tops of their heads as they are busy on their devices! In an effort to find ways that don’t require the internet or even power, I’m introducing items from Funsparks for some family fun without a plug!

My Thoughts:

We love playing games together as a family and we start the kids pretty early with matching or easy card games. When schedules allow for it, we try to have one night a week of family fun where there are no phones, tablets, video games, or other devices allowed during play time. There is a rare exception for work related issues, but even the adults try to wrap it up as fast as they can. During the warm nights where the sun is out later than the rest of the year, we tend to be outside more.

So I needed to add some items to our collection that we could play with as a family, that would handle the elements outside, while still having enough options that we could all play together or split into teams as needed. As long as we are having fun together, that’s the point.

Now, most of the items we’re using from Funsparks are made to be enjoyed both indoors and out which makes them a great year round item. We have an unfinished basement so if the weather is bad, everyone can still get moving and have some family competition. Plus I don’t have to worry about damage to my walls or breaking anything! First things first, we decide what music we’re going to listen to and hook up the Wireless Bluetooth Speaker, setting it up somewhere it won’t get knocked around too much.

Then we decide whether we’re playing alone or in teams, and which game(s) are to be included. I won’t lie; we usually get them all out and just rotate through since some of us are better than others at certain skill sets. Like my husband is a champ when it comes to the Ring Toss game while my son is a pro at the Magnetic Dart Board. Personally, I like to play with the Jazzminton Paddle Ball set and try the different ball and feather combinations. This set even has LED feathers to play in the dark with for another level of difficulty. Plus this game is easy to learn so even the youngest of our crew can pick it up easily; then you have the trick shots to impress the neighborhood kids.

Recently we’ve started playing with the Soft Frisbee since  you don’t get that “sting” on your hands as you go to make a swift catch of the normally hard plastic. Now we can sling it really fast to see how far and fast we can get it going. This is great on the beach or around the pool since it floats, and even the dogs get into the game which is always fun.

We keep these toys and games in their own box or carrying bag depending on what they came with, and those can be easily tossed in a plastic tub which we can drag into the yard, downstairs to the basement, or even tossed in the trunk if we’re taking them out somewhere. I love hearing my family laugh as they work together or try to beat another player, while also getting physical activity and getting off their devices (including myself)! This selection from Funsparks makes for awesome family fun without a plug, especially during the long summer nights. Be sure to get your family night started soon with any of their awesome products, available on the Funsparks Toys & Gifts website.
