The Perfect Privacy Trees

July 30, 2018 by Pam Maynard

Trees are a great way to create more privacy for yourself and your family. You can use them in a variety of ways. They are really good for hedging, screening off sections of your garden or creating a shady spot where you can sit without being overlooked. But, you need to know how to choose the right tree for the job.

The Perfect Privacy Trees

The best trees for hedging

If you want to create an effective privacy screen between yourself and neighboring properties planting a hedge is a particularly good approach. It usually looks much nicer than a traditional fence. Plus, provided you choose the right type of trees will also require a lot less maintenance.

If you want to plant a hedge and see Arborvitae Trees for Sale, stop and take a look. These trees are evergreen and very hardy. This makes them perfect for hedging, especially in urban environments. Many varieties like the Thuja Green Giant can grow by as much as 6 feet per year. So, even if you buy relatively small trees within a year or two your garden will be completely screened from neighboring properties.

Create internal screens

You can also use these types of trees to create internal screens within a garden. So, if you want to leave the bottom section to go wild you can do so and plant a row of trees to separate that area from the rest. Once the screening is established, you can set up a bench in that area and enjoy sitting there when you fancy a nice quite cup of coffee.

Plant a large shade tree

A nice shade tree is a great addition to any garden. Sitting under a tree sipping a cold drink on a boiling hot day is the perfect way to stay cool. The temperature under there is on average 10 degrees lower than it would be under a manmade structure. During the summer months, when the tree has leaves, it becomes a private place for you to sit.

Use a large ornamental tree to create more privacy

Planting an ornamental tree in your front garden is a really effective way to make it hard for people to see into your home as they are passing. Provided you plant it at the right angle you can shield your windows from prying eyes. Importantly, you can do this without blocking out any of the light.

Build a tree house

If you have a tree that is big enough and strong enough you could even build a tree house. They are not just for children. People are becoming increasingly creative with their designs. If you wanted to you can build yourself one that can be used as a completely private retreat.

This is an ambitious project. However, it is something that most homeowners can actually tackle themselves. There are plenty of free tree house plans available online and numerous in-depth instructional videos. If you do want to build one in your garden, just take the time to find out what permissions you will need and make sure that you comply with all of the relevant safety regulations.
