DIY Narwhal From a Terracotta Pot
If you want a craft that is fun and easy, this Narwhal is the way to go. This cute little unicorn of the sea would be a great project for a troop, or class, or just at home with the family. You could even study the Narwhal a bit, and learn about this large single tusked whale that lives in the Arctic. Then follow that up with this adorable craft!
Materials
- terracotta pot (what ever size you want your Narwhal to be)
- large googly eyes
- sequins
- 1 chenille stem (I used metallic purple)
- paint (whatever color you fancy, I used Key West)
- paint brush
- hot glue
- Sharpie
- Scissors
- Foam paper
How It Was Made
My daughter actually designed this cute craft. First she took the pot and painted it, making sure to cover the whole pot. Then after it dried she went ahead and added another coat of paint. Next she cut out two fins and a tail shape from some blue foam paper. Once the paint was fully dry, she hot glued two large googly eyes on the front of the pot, and drew a sweet little smile with a black Sharpie. Then she glued on the fins, one on each side, and the tail in the back. She thought it could use a little sparkle, so she sorted out some blue sequins and glued them all over her Narwhal. Lastly she took the chenille stem and folded it to around two inches. Then she twisted it to look like a spiral unicorn horn.
So from a plain old pot-
With a little imagination, paint, and some classic craft supplies- a Narwhale is born!
For whatever reason, Narwhals are very popular now, and you will see them on clothing and much more. My daughter loves them, and has a few shirts with them on, as well as a cute sequined pillow. I think it is a wonderful use of her time to create adorable works of art. I love to encourage her love of crafts and creating things. One day maybe she will be designing more than cute crafts that would be perfect for school, home, or a girl scout troop. So grab some supplies and foster your child’s creativity!
Have fun making your Unicorn of the Sea!
