Now that winter is about over and you are ready to come out of hibernation, it is time to prepare your house for the upcoming season of spring. There are many maintenance jobs you will want to complete before spring is sprung. Here are four ideas to help prepare you for the approaching season.
Check the Roof and Gutters
Depending on where you live, winter is just about over. That leaves you with outside maintenance to work on and check. When spring gets here, it will most likely bring a lot of rain with it. You need to check your roof for any potential leaks, dead branches, and loose or missing shingles. Also, take the opportunity to clean your gutters from any debris such as leaves or broken tree limbs.
Bring Spring Cleaning Outside
When spring hits, many people think of spring cleaning as being something that is done inside the home. In fact, there are many things that you should also clean outside as well. Take some time to power wash your walkways and look for cracks in need of repair. As you clean your windows and doors, check for any chipped paint that needs to be refreshed or painted. Do not forget to rake up any extra debris from your yard.
Schedule HVAC Maintenance
During the winter months, you probably kept up with your heating system. Since the warmer months are approaching, you need to check your cooling system for any necessary repairs. Be sure to have your thermostat tested even though you used it over the winter. You should also have the blower, refrigerant, condenser, compressor, and wiring checked as well. Doing regular preventative maintenance will help you save money in the long-run.
Seal Any Accesses Under Your House
In the spring, animals tend to look for a place to nest. It is advisable to check for opened areas under your home that animals can get into and seal them off. Animals can damage your home by breaking pipes, pulling the insulation apart, or chewing holes in your wires. They can also have a negative impact on your foundation if they are able to tunnel underneath it. Thus, it is best to check for any exterior access to your home to prevent such damage.
Spring is approaching! Before the new baby animals and rainstorms get here, though, you need to prepare your home. Use this time wisely and take precautions, so minor problems—like those discussed above—do not become huge dilemmas later on.
