How to Make Storing Your Stuff Easier and More Rewarding

December 10, 2017 by Pam Maynard

The average home can easily become over whelmed with stuff. Clothes will multiply until they no longer fit in the closets, toys become nothing but clutter, and you’ll find yourself constantly tripping over larger items. Fortunately, the following tips can help you store your stuff in an easier and more rewarding way.

How to Make Storing Your Stuff Easier and More Rewarding

Clothing

Out of season clothing can be stored away in order to make room for your current wardrobe. Use the large plastic bags that can be compressed by removing the air inside of them with a vacuum. This method can greatly reduce the amount of space needed for large amounts of clothing. Hang tops over their matching skirts or pants to reduce the amount of coat hangers needed, and use drawers for T-shirts, socks, and under garments.

Toys

Toys can take over a home quickly. If you are feeling overwhelmed by this, your kids are probably feeling the same way. Too much to pick from can be as stressful as not enough toys for small children. By rotating them you are keeping the toys new and exciting. Box up half of them. Routinely switch the boxed ones with those you left out. The clutter will decrease and they’ll have more fun.

Large Items

We all have large items taking up space in our closets, spare rooms, and garages. Often these are things we use only once a year or seasonally. Renting a self-storage unit, like those at I-70 Self Storage, is the perfect solution. This could be where holiday decorations are kept as well as lawn and garden items throughout the winter months. Bicycles will fit nicely during cold months, and the snow blower will be out of the way in August.

Food

The best way to make storing food easier is to label everything. Along with having a designated spot for each category of foods, make sure that containers and bags are clearly marked with the name of the contents and the date it was stored. Rotate items by date to eliminate wasting perishables or losing meat to freezer burn.

Once the clothes, toys, large items, and seasonal stuff are neatly stored away, you’ll be able to enjoy your home much more than when you were constantly tripping over stuff. You’ll have a relaxing environment that is easier and more rewarding than you may have thought possible.
