Boy Scouts is an incredibly popular program that many kids start when they are just 5 or 6 years old. For those that enjoy the scouts, a good option would be to pursue Eagle Scout certification. To become an Eagle Scout, you will first need to complete a final project. There are four Eagle projects that should be considered that will help them to qualify for the top award and serve their community.
Improving ADA Compliance
Another idea for an Eagle Scout project would be to make ADA compliant improvements around your town. While new buildings today need to meet specifications for those with disabilities, there are still many properties that do not have the necessary access. One way that an Eagle Scout could improve their community would be by making ADA necessary improvements such as installing access ramps at properties or helping buildings paint ADA compliant parking spaces.
Organize a Relief Donation Effort
Another way that a Scout could help their community is by organizing a relief donation effort. There are under privileged people in communities all over the country. A scout would be able to help their community by organizing an effort to donate food, blankets, personal care items, or any other number of items necessary to help someone improve their lives.
Neighborhood Cleanup
If the scout lives in or near a community that is in desperate need of revitalization, another option would be to organize an initiative to clean up a certain area. By engaging others in the community and hiring a waste management company, a scout will be able to efficiently and quickly clean up any area of their town. They could then work to help the community find more productive ways to use the space, such as by putting in a park.
Use Tech Skills
Many scouts that are now looking to become Eagle Scouts are more tech-compliant than people in older generations. Scouts that are looking to improve their communities could do so by using this skill set and knowledge. Some good examples of this would include establishing programs to teach computer literacy to people, creating electronic databases and inventory systems for local organizations, or create an online website that can be used to take charitable donations.
When any scout is looking to advance and earn their Eagle Scout badge, the most important thing is for them to find a project that they are passionate about. Ultimately, they will be able to find something that they truly enjoy and are motivated by and also provides a great community service. This will then allow them to qualify for the ultimately award in the program.
