4 Easy Ways to Treat Common Ailments in Puppies and Adolescent Canines

September 10, 2017 by Pam Maynard

It isn’t unusual for puppies and younger dogs to have a runny nose, problems going to the bathroom or issues with their skin. In many cases, these issues will clear themselves up with time and some extra attention. Your vet may also be able to make recommendations as to how you can help you dog overcome its health issues.

Change Your Dog’s Diet

In some cases, an allergy or other discomfort may be caused by a food allergy. By changing the food that your dog eats, it may be possible to avoid some or all of the symptoms associated with that allergy. You may also want to consider giving your dog boiled chicken and rice to help ease its stomach.

Ointment May Help Ease Flea or Tick Problems

If you see your dog scratching its ear or any other part of its body, it may be dealing with mites or other parasites. Rubbing ointment where your dog seems to be itching the most may put an end to the problem. Make sure that you don’t let your dog lick or scratch the area after the ointment is put on. It may also be a good idea to give the animal a bath and give it flea and tick medication to prevent future itching.

Brush Your Dog’s Teeth Regularly

Some breeds are more prone to oral health issues than others. For instance, if you get a husky, you should be ready to brush its teeth at least once a day. Some companies, such as Husky Palace, know that watching out for oral health issues in dogs is important. You may also want to give it dental bones or chews that will help to keep its mouth clean and healthy during its formative years.

Pills Can Help Ease Ear and Other Infections

Ear infections are relatively common in young dogs, but they can be relatively easy to overcome. Giving your dog a pill once a day for 10-14 days is usually enough to make it go away. To entice your pup to eat the pill, you can wrap it in cheese, peanut butter or other foods that smell and taste good to the animal.

Dogs are among the most loyal animals that a human could raise. Therefore, it is your responsible to return that love and loyalty by keeping your dog as healthy as possible. Simple steps such as giving your dog dental chews or changing the food that it eats can reduce the odds that your puppy suffers from a number of common health ailments.
