In recent years, stories of fictional characters such as fairies, dragons, and evil queens have been very popular. There’s a new book, The Crowns of Croswald that takes middle schoolers into the mythical realm of the Halls of Ivy.
Ivy Lovely, a 16 year old orphan, hidden for years behind an enchanted boundary that separates the normal folks from the magical folks. When she breaches the boundary, she discovers powers she didn’t know she had.
Ivy was a castle maid, a poor girl cooking for others. She was the keeper of the dragons that heated the ovens. When there was an accident, she runs away to a magical world full of fairies, dragons, evil queens and so much more.
This fun book will keep your middle schooler entertained for hours and even after wanting more of the story. D.E. Knight makes sure the reader can “see” what they are reading and makes the story so believable even though it’s pure fantasy.
When I received the box containing The Crowns of Croswald, I was surprised to see it was more than just a box. Containing not only the book, but a fun light inside a bottle called a Glanagerie. Twist the top and the bottle shines through the glitter coating the bottle. It’s very cool and it goes along with the fantasy of spells, quills, and magic wands.
With an imagination, your child will not only lose themselves in The Crowns of Croswald, they will discover reading can not only entertain you, but it can take you places that your feet can not. Reading is so important and getting children to understand that will be easier with books like this one.
