It’s that time of year again. The sun is turning up the heat. Unless you have the luxury of lounging on a beach all summer long, you need to get creative when it comes to beating the soaring temperatures. You can’t walk around with a sprinkler pouring over your head all day, but you can try these four tips to stay cool.
Invest in Cotton Clothes
As you get ready to stock up your summer wardrobe, look for cotton. It’s a lightweight fabric that won’t stick to your skin. T-shirts, shorts, capris, and flowing dresses will help you to combat high temperatures on the warmest days. Be sure to choose clothing in light colors as well to avoid absorbing the heat. Follow the same tip when it’s time for bed, using cotton sheets and cotton pajamas in order to chill out.
Make the Most of Your Freezer
Whether you are trying to stay cool at night or you need to get off to a great start in the morning, you can use your freezer to keep your cool. Stick your sheets or your clothes for the day in a sealed bag and stick them in the freezer. Wait about ten minutes, take them out, and enjoy that cool sensation on your skin for as long as it lasts.
Stay Hydrated
Your body is going to need extra fluids when the hot weather sets in. As a rule of thumb, you should be drinking at least eight glasses of water a day. In the summer, make it ten. Add ice and carry a water bottle or tumbler with you everywhere you go. Not only will you be refreshed, you will keep your weight down by drinking so much water.
Don’t Forget the Air Conditioner
If you don’t have an air conditioner, it’s time to think about getting one. Sit down and look at your budget as you determine what you can afford. Central air will be the best investment in the long run, but you will have to lay out the most money up front. If you already have air conditioning, call your HVAC technicians to come in and make sure your unit is in tiptop shape. Checking the qualifications of a technician before you hire them is always a good idea. While not every technician needs to have a degree from a place like the HVAC Technical Institute, having some sort of certification or certificate showing that they have been properly trained is important. If you are sure to use someone who is well qualified, then you will have a cool haven waiting for you when you need it most.
Like it or not, you’re going to have to face the music when it comes to summer’s high temperatures. Do your best to find the shade, dive in a pool, and take it easy when you can. Before you know it, the weather will change. Make the best of it while you can.
