One of my fondest memories as a kid was the first time I stayed the night at a friend’s house. While I don’t remember anything about the sleepover itself, I do remember breakfast! That Saturday morning, her mom made an entire breakfast buffet, complete with fresh fruit and various syrups. It was like a dream. I couldn’t withhold my excitement! It was as though we were celebrating the day, or the start of the weekend — what a way to kick off a Saturday morning! Every Saturday should start that way, right?
Saturday Morning Breakfast Club!
Saturday mornings are special. I like to think they set the tone for the entire weekend! That’s why it is important to celebrate your Saturdays with the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club! The only requirement is that you sit together and have a fun breakfast together.
What’s fun?
Food can be fun. Decorations are fun. Who says you only need to decorate for birthdays? Not me! My kids love when I use a themed set of party plates, or toss up a couple of paper decorations. It gives them that “Is it my birthday?” smile when they wake up — even when it isn’t their birthday!
Making Food Fun for Breakfast!
This week’s Saturday Morning Breakfast Club meant kabobs! They were so simple to make, but a big hit with the littles! Especially since they were dippable!
I used two types of straws to make them dippable. First, I used a firm plastic straw to create the holes inside of our fresh strawberries, Little Bites® Strawberry Yogurt Muffins, and sausage balls. Next, I used a decorative straw as a skewer. I prefer using straws as skewers for my young children because bamboo skewers can be a little sharp for wee ones.
Dip. Dip. Dip. Each child was given their own favorite flavored syrup and yogurt to dip their kabobs into. If you haven’t made a flavored syrup before, don’t fret. Flavored syrups are easy to prepare. After warming your syrup, stir in a teaspoon or two of jelly! We like strawberry or blueberry best.
