Ferndale, California Is An Eccentric And Whimsical Village
Since the 1850’s, Ferndale has always been a dairy town. It still features Victorian style homes such as the Shaw House, Gingerbread Mansion-turned-Inn and many B&B’s styled in the same Victorian vein.
Antique shops and lovely boutiques sprinkle main street, along with art galleries featuring local artists. Tasty fare is served at the restaurants, their tantalizing fragrances assailing visitors as they stroll the main street.
Trinidad, California: Village By The Sea
Driving on main street of Trinidad you pass the Memorial Lighthouse and come eventually to the picturesque view of the Trinidad Bay, where fishing boats anchor. Delicious fresh fish from these sea-going crafts is served daily at the many seaside restaurants. The summer Fish Festival serving a lunch of fish, salad, beans and dessert is a popular event.

Although the charming little town of Jerome, Arizona nestles on the side of what is called Cleopatra’s Hill, that hill would be a mountain to many. The view looking across the Verde Valley is magnificent.
Once the state’s fifth largest town, Jerome boasted 15,000 residents. Copper was the big draw in 1883 but when the mines closed so did most of the town. From ghost town to artist community of 450 hardy souls, Jerome holds on as a tourist spot. Visitors can spend time at an enchanting bed and breakfast, explore the towns’ museums and unique shops as well as learn more about its very interesting history as a mining/ghost town.
