Understated Vacation: 5 Quaint Towns Perfect For Your Summer Trip

May 11, 2017 by Pam Maynard

For a charming and picturesque town to explore this summer try one of these destinations. From coast to coast, there may be one within an acceptable road trip distance.

Ferndale, California Is An Eccentric And Whimsical Village

Since the 1850’s, Ferndale has always been a dairy town. It still features Victorian style homes such as the Shaw House, Gingerbread Mansion-turned-Inn and many B&B’s styled in the same Victorian vein.

Antique shops and lovely boutiques sprinkle main street, along with art galleries featuring local artists. Tasty fare is served at the restaurants, their tantalizing fragrances assailing visitors as they stroll the main street.

Trinidad, California: Village By The Sea

Driving on main street of Trinidad you pass the Memorial Lighthouse and come eventually to the picturesque view of the Trinidad Bay, where fishing boats anchor. Delicious fresh fish from these sea-going crafts is served daily at the many seaside restaurants. The summer Fish Festival serving a lunch of fish, salad, beans and dessert is a popular event.

Delicious pie and ice cream are waiting at the Blackberry Festival. Live band entertainment and local craft artists complete the pleasant picture.

High On A Mountain Top: Jerome Arizona Awaits You

Although the charming little town of Jerome, Arizona nestles on the side of what is called Cleopatra’s Hill, that hill would be a mountain to many. The view looking across the Verde Valley is magnificent.

Once the state’s fifth largest town, Jerome boasted 15,000 residents. Copper was the big draw in 1883 but when the mines closed so did most of the town. From ghost town to artist community of 450 hardy souls, Jerome holds on as a tourist spot. Visitors can spend time at an enchanting bed and breakfast, explore the towns’ museums and unique shops as well as learn more about its very interesting history as a mining/ghost town.

Baker House, East Hamptons: Awaiting Your Pleasure

Within a short bike ride’s distance of the seaside, The Baker House 1650 snuggles into the surrounding landscape for your enjoyment. After a morning at the beach, spend time at the lovely spa center which includes sauna rejuvenation. This quant vacation destination will be a perfect spot for quiet relaxation.

Eureka Springs, Arkansas: Keeping The Pools Hot For You

This engaging summer destination is in the heart of Ozark country. Indoor, outdoor, dining, relaxing…it’s got it all. Delight in attractions and activities as well as time in the hot springs for which it is famous. Eureka Springs is also an historical site. Nature hikes, zip lines and festivals abound. Get a little jump on summer and visit in early May to enjoy The Great Passion play. You could also leapfrog to Branson, Missouri since that fun-packed town is just a hop and skip away!

Whichever direction you choose to go, there is a fantastic home-away-from-home for your amusement, relaxation and pleasure. Fly, drive, take a bus or train…just get up and GO this summer!
