Natural Snacks for Your Most Picky Eaters

April 22, 2017 by Pam Maynard

At some point in their lives, many children will go through at least one stage where they become picky eaters. For some it is a phase they outgrow, and for others it can be a constant struggle for parents to deal with. If you are a parent of a picky eater, try the natural snacks below to get the proper nutrition to even your most fussy eater.

Homemade Granola

Even choosy eaters will like the slightly sweetened and crunchy texture of homemade granola. You can make your own by combining whole oats with your child’s favorite nuts, dried fruit, and seeds. Bind it together with maple syrup or raw honey to give it a hint of sweetness. You might even be able to sneak in a little plain yogurt for some added dairy.

Edamame

Not only is edamame good for you, but children find it fun to eat. You can simply boil the pods or steam them and add a little salt. Just be sure that the pods snap when done to make sure they still have their crunchy texture. These immature soybeans are an excellent source of protein, fiber, and other nutrients and have a mild flavor that kids love.

Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to pack in a lot of nutrients, and they are a filling and fun-to-eat food. You can make your smoothie from milk, fresh herbs, veggies, or fruits, and even add a little bit of protein powder for kids who do not like to eat a lot of meat. You might be able to add some essential oils like doTERRA products that help boost immune systems and give your smoothies a sweet flavor. Find a fruit or flavor that your child likes and make it the star of the smoothie so that is what they primarily taste. Make your smoothie thicker so your little one can get a shake-like snack filled with nutrition.

Muffins

Muffins are a quick morning meal or afternoon snack that can give your child much of their daily nutrition and help to stave off hunger throughout the day. Whether you try veggie, fruit, or bran muffins, you will be able to find a recipe that will appeal to even the pickiest of eaters.

If you have a picky eater or are just looking for a few great healthy snacks to feed your kids, try the four snacks options above to keep their tummies full and their bodies healthy.
