Being a stay-at-home mom is generally a full-time job in and of itself. But being a stay-at-home mom also means you stare at the same walls, furniture, and decor every day. Whether you have your hands full with a newborn or toddler or just have a lot of time on your hands when the kids are at school, you may long to do some redecorating. For moms that don’t have a lot of time, money or energy – or have a little extra of all three – here are five great home design ideas you can accomplish on any budget and with any amount of time or energy.
1. Give the kitchen a facelift
Unless you have a custom designed kitchen, kitchen cabinets come in fairly standard sizes, which means the doors are generally come in standard sizes as well. Buy new cabinet doors in a bright shade to add a fresh, modern look to your kitchen on a budget price. For a truly custom-designed look, you can remove the cabinet doors and paint them, apply stencils or even decoupage your children’s artwork onto them. If you have any plans to resell your home, however, you may want to take off the original cabinet doors, store them away somewhere and purchase new doors to have fun and play with. That way, you won’t have to worry about finding matching doors if you ever sell.
2. Spruce up the patio
Spring is a great time to start planning for outdoor summer entertaining – or even just outdoor living. Whether you have the resources to install an entire outdoor kitchen, or just give your outdoor furniture an updated look, there are a number of great patio design ideas available online. Lighting is also a great way to give your patio a great new look without breaking the bank or taking up loads of time. Another modern trend that can completely change the look of your outdoor spaces is a fire pit. There are a number of fire pit centerpieces you can throw some chairs around for a great outdoor conversation area. And with a lit fire to sit around, you may even be able to enjoy your outdoor areas long before summer arrives.
3. Stencil your walls
Wall stencils come in a wide range of styles, ranging from inspirational quotes to pretty patterns. If you’re crafty, you might opt to even create your own stencil for painting, but you can also buy a number of vinyl stencils online that you literally just peel and stick to the wall. Design doesn’t have to be complicated to make a huge impact.
4. Buy a new couch cover and throw pillows
You can give your living room a major makeover by just buying new covers and coordinating pillows. If you are handy with a sewing machine, you can even make new covers for the throw pillows you already have. Best of all, you can make several sets of throw pillow covers for different seasons. Each time you want a new look, just change out the couch cover, throw some new covers on your throw pillows and viola! A brand new look!
5. Buy a new duvet cover and throw pillows
You can do the same thing in the bedroom that you did in the living room! Giving your home a beautiful makeover doesn’t have to break the bank or take months of planning, effort and execution. There are a wide variety of projects you can tackle even if you only have a few 15 – 20 minute blocks of time per day. Creating a fresh new look for every room in your home is totally doable for even the busiest of stay-at-home moms.
