Every state is different and offers its own variety of adventure, but there are also experiences that you can have in any state you’re in. Every state has their own famous restaurant, special meal, or high rise attraction. When you’re in a crunch for something fun with your family but you don’t know where to start, choose one of these eight adventures. My only rule is, you have you to pick something your family has never done before (at least, not in your state.)
8 Adventures to Take Your Family On In Your State
Hot Air Balloon Ride! I have always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon. Many states have festivals devoted to them that feature balloons with elaborate designs and characters, but even states that don’t host an event offer locations that specialize in guest rides. Visit one, go up in the air, or just stay on the ground and watch. Whatever view you’re most comfortable with will be a memory that will last a lifetime.
Go to the Museum or the Zoo! We love going to the zoo or the museum in every state we visit. Each one is different from the next and has something about it that makes it special.
Visit the State Capital and take a tour! State Capital tours give families the opportunity to connect with their local government and learn more about their state. Many are stunning and made from locally sourced materials.
Find a Roadside Attraction to visit! Roadside attractions are weirdly fun and no two are alike. They make for a memorable experience for the entire family.
Farms! Farms are a LOT of fun! You-pick fields, farms with animals, orchards, tree farms, and worm farms — we have never been to a farm that wasn’t fun! (Even that smelly worm one!)
Tour an Old City or Ghost Town. Visiting a ghost town is on my husband’s bucket list. We have come close to them a dozen times but never actually visited one. The alternative, however, is to visit an old city or town. We really enjoy old towns that are preserved well. St. Augustine and Athens are two of our favorites.
Train Rides are a little kids’ dream! They adore them and the secret is that adults love riding in trains too! Trains give you the ability to go where you can’t drive and to view the landscape without worrying if the driver is paying attention to the road or to the scenery. They give everyone in the family the opportunity to enjoy the sights at the same time.
