The Science Inside:

This closed-loop ecosystem is powered by auqaponics — the combination of aquaculture (or fish farming), with hydroponics (or growing plants in nutrient-rich water). Here’s how the self-cleaning cycle works:

Your fish produces nutrient-rich waste.

In regular aquariums the nutrient-rich waste builds up and becomes harmful to your fish. In this Water Garden, the plants are continually taking up these nutrients as food to grow.

The clean filtered water drops back down to your fish, and the cycle continues!

Winters in New England are way too long! I was excited to get this Water Garden so I could grown some fresh herbs for cooking.  But, my son told me about the projects they are doing in science class.  He decided that his Science teacher would be able to use this Water Garden to teach them  about ecosystems and hydroponics.

I can’t wait to see what they grow and how the Water Garden does in the school!
