Moving can be one of the most stressful events in your life. Between packing up everything at your current home and moving to your new one, it can be a lot of work. Luckily there are different businesses out there like Bekins Van Lines Inc to help make your move as easy as possible. However, if you want to make packing even easier and less stressful, here are a few tips that you should follow.
Pack Your Clothes On Hangers
When many people move, they will usually take their clothes off of the hangers and pack them in bags or boxes. When they get to their new home, they would need to unfold them and hang them back up. This is a huge waste of time. The best way to pack clothes on hangers is to leave them on the hangers. To do this, put them in a trash bag and poke a hole through the top for the hangers to come through. Next, use a zip-tie to hold all of the hangers together. When you get to your new house, all you will need to do is remove the zip-tie and the trash bag and hang up the clothes.
Packing Your Plates
It is not uncommon for dishes to get broken during a move. If you want to protect your plates as much as possible, you should first wrap them in bubble wrap or newspaper. Next, when you are putting them in the box, you don’t want to stack them on top of each other. Instead, stack them vertically as if they were in a file cabinet. If the box gets dropped in transit, stacking the dishes this way will keep them from breaking.
Packing Towels and Sheets
If you are like many people, you are planning to pack your towels and sheets in a bag or a box. This is a mistake. You can actually use these items to protect your breakables. Rather than wrapping glass and other breakable items with bubble wrap, use the sheets and towels. They have to get their regardless, and if you use them to protect your breakables you can save on the cost of bubble wrap.
Cover Up Nail Holes in the Wall
If you are moving out of a home that you were renting, your former landlord may require you to fill in the holes in the walls caused by nails. If you don’t have the time to replaster the whole wall, a bar of soap will work just as well. Simply rub the hole with the soap until it is filled in. This will take half the time of replastering each hole.
Packing Your Televisions
If you are like most people, you have a flat screen television. These are much more fragile than the older tube televisions. If you want to get your television to your new home without any damage, you need to pack it properly. Start by wrapping the television with a towel or a bed sheet. Next, cover it with bubble wrap and then moving pads. Finally, wrap the whole thing up with tape. When you put your television in the truck, be sure not to lie it down. It needs to be standing upright the whole time. The box that you made to protect it will keep it from being damaged during the ride.
If you follow the tips listed above when you are packing to move to your new home, you can save yourself some time and some money. Also, you can be sure that your items will get to their destination safely. Moving definitely doesn’t have to be as expensive and stressful as you would think.
