About Gifted Custom Art
Kevin West, a professional artist for 15 years founded Gifted Custom Art. When it became too large for him alone, he called on his friend Kelly Hipskind. Kelly brought the technology to the table. Together they have the first fully automated, on demand, custom paint-by-number company in the world. Due to their patented software, hardware, and services, everyone can be an artist. Therefore regardless of age or skill level, everyone can create a memory on canvas.
I was really excited about painting my own picture. I thought the idea was fantastic, and had fun digging through photos on my computer to find the right one. It was hard to narrow all the choices down to one. I thought maybe one of my husband and me, or one of the three kids, my horse, my cat, or one of my dogs. Gifted suggested a single person for novices, so I ruled out the kids and us, since I did not want to favor anyone and hurt feelings. I finally choose our Basset Hound, Macey because she has such great eyes and would look cool as art on the wall.
My picture came in a cardboard box that converts into an easel to place the picture on. It came with five different paint brushes, and five different shades of blue all clearly marked with their number. You can choose the color palette you would like to work with. The color choices are rose, green, blue, purple, black, and brown. I picked blue so I could hang it in my son’s room, because we consider Macey his dog.
You begin with the darkest color #5 and paint all the fives in everywhere on the picture. You can turn the picture different ways to get the easiest angle. After you finish all the fives, you move on to #4 and continue filling in all the fours. It is easy and relaxing to just follow the numbers.
Next you paint all the 3s, then the 2s, and 1s until the picture is complete. I did go over all mine a second time to darken the color some. It was so cool to see this picture come together into something I am very proud of.
My dad came over to visit one day and saw the painting from across the room. He couldn’t see all the numbers, and he started saying how talented I am. He told me I got that from his dad and my mom’s mom because they both painted. I hated to burst his bubble and tell him it was paint by numbers.
Mom’s Thoughts
I love my completed picture, and am considering doing one of each of my children to hang in the living room. What an amazing way to capture a memory and turn it into art. These pictures would be great as a group project for a girls night, birthday party theme, Bachelorette party, or a date night. They would make great Christmas gifts as well. You could give them the picture to paint, or you could paint it and give them the finished masterpiece. I know it would be very meaningful if I painted a picture of past loved ones like my grandma, and gave it to my dad. There is such a special quality about these paintings.
