Right now, you know that you need to support your children’s passions. However, when those passions don’t include higher education, reconsider the reasons why you should support such a pursuit.
1. Exploration of New Knowledge
Your children might have a particular career goal right now, but that doesn’t mean they’ve fully explored all their options. Venturing into the college domain gives them a chance to have new experiences and to learn about subject matter that they did not even know existed.
2. Connections with People
If your kids do not attend college, their social setting may begin to diminish. Making friends in school is generally much easier than in the outside world. While the social scene is not always the most important part of life, it does help people learn how to grow and communicate with one another.
3. Living Alone
When your children don’t attend college, they may end up living with you for a number of years. While that is okay, you don’t want your kids to lack basic skills for navigating life without your guidance, such as shopping for healthy foods, scheduling doctor appointments and paying for bills.
4. Multiple Options
Perhaps your kids are fighting against the idea of going to college because they do not want the traditional experience. Fortunately, your kids could also look into a college with a specialty, such as cooking or film. On top of that, they could pursue higher education degrees online. Doing so gives them time to work as well if that is what they want.
5. More Money
Choosing a career based solely on salary is not a good idea, especially because salaries are not necessarily guaranteed in any particular field. However, people who attend college do tend to earn more money than those who do not, making for a freer financial future.
6. Back-up Plan
Your children may have a great deal of passion for a field, such as the arts. Even though you believe in your kids, you also know the reality of the field. When they attend college, they can have a back-up plan if the first idea does not work out.
7. Making Connections
No matter what field your children want to enter, having connections in the field can make the road easier. Attending college gives them the chance to speak with professors in the field in their classes and at larger events.
Attending college is important, and you want to guide your children in the right direction.
