Operation Tenley by Jennifer Gooch Hummer
About the Book:
Elemental Teen, Tenley Tylwth was born with the ability to control weather. However, Mother Nature tends to be angered by the Elementals and would ultimately like to make them distinct. The ancestor fairies have created a plan that allows Fair One’s to protect Tenley and the other Elementals from afar. But when new Fair One, Pennie breaks this perfectly crafted plan and allows Tenley to use her elemental powers for too long, she is sent to Earth- a place where no Fair One wants to go- in order to convince Tenley to stop messing with the weather. Tenley is stuck in her ways and convincing her won’t be easy, but things for Tenley become scary fast when she is thrust into a forest where the trees grow upside down and insects attack on command. The only thing that could save her or kill her, is the last few Elemental tricks she has up her sleeve.
My Thoughts:
Even though Operation Tenley is for Tweens and Teens, I have to admit, after the first chapter, I couldn’t put it down. The author has an amazing way with words! Her short sentences are punchy and funny and left me wanting more! I rarely get to say that after the first chapter!
This book is an easy read because it keeps your attention with all the fun action and adventure. Tenley has an ability and we learn together how she is able to control it. One of my favorite parts is when Pennie- the Fair One who is supposed to protect Tenley, learns how Tenley dries her nail polish. I can picture the whole scene in my mind due to all the fun details and dialogue in the scene.
I love that the story revolves around Tenley’s mission to be American’s Next Most Inspiraitonal Teen. It adds many fun details and scenes that make the book unforgettable. It’s a must-read for teens that want a funny action story! It has all the details of peer pressure, lack of self-confidence and other teen struggles.
