5 Tips For Keeping Your Home Clean And Healthy

September 29, 2016 by Pam Maynard

People who clean a lot risk exposing themselves too much to harmful chemicals from cleaning supplies. This is something that can destroy certain microorganisms that support optimal physical health. On the other hand, people who clean too little obviously overexpose themselves to a buildup of unhealthy debris. However, how can you find a happy middle ground? Follow these five tips to strike a balance that creates a clean and healthy environment:

5-tips-for-keeping-your-home-clean-and-healthy

Leave Shoes at the Door

Many people don’t realize that they track nasty materials indoors most every day just by walking around the house in their shoes. Because of this many harmful materials can get into your home including toxic particles and dangerous microorganisms. Some of these substances can even kill the young, the elderly and people who have compromised immune systems. That is why it is such a good idea to put on “indoor” footwear as soon as you enter your home.

Dust and Vacuum Weekly

Human skin, hair, pollen, spores, dirt and a variety of other indoor and outdoor particles accumulate quickly. This debris can create or exacerbate health problems, including immune system dysfunction, allergies and asthma. If you have old radiators in your home covered in lead paint, you also risk more severe health problems from dust and paint chip lead exposure.

Cleaning Tips to Remember When Moving into a New Place

Use Efficient Cleaning Systems

You don’t have to spend all of your time cleaning. One of the best ways to reduce the workload is by running portable air purifiers that contain high-efficiency particulate air filters in the background daily. Additionally, invest in microfiber dust clothes and a vacuum that contains a HEPA filter to capture fine dust instead of puffing it back into the air.

Clean the HVAC System

Dirty air vents spread dust and debris from pests and support mold growth. Dirt can also cause overheating and damage parts of the system. That is why it is a good idea to contact a team of HVAC professionals, such as those found at Pacific Aire, Inc. to inspect, clean and repair your HVAC system. If you take advantages of help like this you can receive guidance on the correct methods for keeping it clean between inspections.

Throw Out the Antibacterial Soap

The FDA recently announced that manufacturers can no longer sell antibacterial soaps that contain 19 specific ingredients that fail to offer any additional benefits to consumers beyond plain soap and water. Medical research studies have revealed that some of these ingredients, such as triclosan, can potentially harm people by making bacteria more resistant to antibiotics, triggering allergic reactions, creating hormonal imbalance issues and stimulating cancer growth.

These few easy-to-implement ideas require an immediate investment of time and money, but save you from a lot of hassle in the long run. Make your home a healthy place to live and entertain by starting today.
