4 Things to Bring Along for the Ultimate Family Road Trip

September 21, 2016 by Pam Maynard

One of the best things that a family can do is to go on a fun road trip to visit national monuments or parks. However, if you are going on a long vacation, then you need to prepare ahead of time by packing the right things.

4-things-to-bring-along-for-the-ultimate-family-road-trip

1: Keep Everyone Busy While You Drive

To avoid having children pestering you while you are driving, make sure to have some fun games to play. Not only can children play some card games while you are traveling, but also, if you get stuck inside a motel room on a rainy day, then you are prepared. Look for games that have magnetic boards that hold the pieces to avoid losing parts under a vehicle’s seats.

2: Bring Along Snacks and Beverages

Everyone gets hungry between meals while they are traveling on a road trip, but the prices of the snacks and beverages at gas stations are ridiculous. In many cases, the foods and drinks that you find at roadside stands are filled with sugar and fat. Pack your own fruit cups, veggie sticks and juice boxes in a cooler to save money while consuming healthier foods.

3: Hitch a Trailer to Your Automobile

When the passengers in a vehicle are overcrowded, everyone gets cranky, so you should rent a storage trailer, like the kind available from Hillsboro Industries, to hitch to the back of your automobile. You can store tents and sleeping bags for camping along with extra clothing that is packed in suitcases. The inside of your vehicle will not feel cramped, so you’ll have plenty of time  and it will also stay cleaner.

4: Pack a First-Aid Kit

You probably don’t think that a first-aid kit is a lot of fun, but if you forget this item, then you will need to find a physician’s office or drugstore quickly. In addition to packing bandages and antibiotic ointment, make sure to have a lot of sunscreen lotion, insect repellent and a snakebite kit. Make sure to carry a cellphone with you everywhere that you go in order to contact paramedics.

Have a Fun Road Trip

While you are traveling, take time to stop at a store to buy fresh beverages and snacks along with replenishing your first-aid kit. If your children get bored with the games that they packed, then you can have them look for license plates from different states. For toddlers, you can teach them their colors by asking them to find something outside the windows that is yellow or green.
