Ten years ago I escaped a stressful work week by taking off with my family to Orlando. The trip was completely unplanned, we had no idea what we were going to do or where we would stay when we got there. The only thing I cared about was getting away from the most stressful work week of my life (not an exaggeration).
We made it into town and quickly found a convenient affordable hotel right on I-drive. When I went inside to inquire about vacancies, the clerk told me they were completely booked — but the hotel’s sister location would be willing to accept us at their low rate of $75 a night. She quickly signed a flyer, gave me directions, and I was on my way (to where? I had no idea.)
As we pulled up to sister location, my husband insisted we were lost. Hesitantly, he pulled up to the security gate and handed the guard the flyer give to us.
“I think I’m lost. Am I at the right place?”
Shockingly, the guard opened the gate and waved us onward to the valet stand!
Instead of staying at a barely tolerable hotel for three days, we were being offered a weekend stay at a Orlando Resort with a seventy-percent discount!
It was the greatest upgrade I have ever received in my life!
We spent the entire weekend at the hotel in total amazement. Our room was magnificent with plush pillow tops on the beds and down comforters. AND when we weren’t sleeping, we toured the magnificent lobby, conference center, and grounds like a group of tourist at the Colosseum!
After crossing the country twice, and traveling for more than seven months (consecutively), our impromptu Orlando vacation ten years ago is still our favorite. The surprise upgrade and amazement is what keeps this trip at the top of our list.
