Have you seen that Meme that shows the comparison between the moms you meet at your child’s school? It was a humorous and eye opening experience for most of us. I always thought I had it so much more together than that, but: meet me, “Hot Mess” mom. Yes, I am always running late, my hair does whatever it wants, I might have breakfast lurking somewhere on my shirt, and my kids never have matching socks. I honestly thought that was normal.
Since all of my motherly flaws were pointed out to me in a fun and loving way, I decided that, maybe, it was time to take this mom thing up a notch. I’m going to start small, get used to taking care of my personal care, and then work my way out.
Up first is my hair. Last week I snuck out of the house by myself to grab milk, when a hair salon caught my attention. With knots in my stomach, I pulled in for a quick cut and style. It was the first hair cut I’ve had in two years. My dead ends were baffling to the stylist who lectured me that I need to stop wearing my hair up and condition more frequently.
When I left, I remembered that there was so much more I was neglecting than just my hair. On my next shopping trip, I had made sure to make a personal care Back to School shopping list for myself.
My shopping list included a new hair care system, a small supplies pouch, notepad, and pretty purple pen! It doesn’t sound like much, but these are what I decided I needed the most to get out “hot mess mom” status!
