Creative Ways to Save Your Family Money Every Month

June 22, 2016 by Pam Maynard

Almost everyone is trying to save money these days. The cost of living keeps going up, while paychecks everywhere seem to be at a steady lull. So what is a family to do to save money in this tough economy? Here are some tips to help you out.

How You Can Save Money On Everyday Items

Think Small to Save Big

The first way that you can save money is to cut your food budget. Rather than stopping at a fast food joint on the way home, why not cook for yourself? Did you know if you buy in bulk you can save a ton of money? Additionally, get a large pack of hamburger and divide it into quick meals. You can even pre-fry the hamburger and have it ready to go in the freezer. This way, you can defrost and cook dinner in less than 30 minutes, saving plenty of money.  You can also save at the grocery store by learning to coupon. Shop for sale items and add coupons on top of sales for the most benefit.

Limit Indulgences

One great way you can save is to cut out the little extras. Do you stop at a gourmet coffee shop on the way to work each morning? Cutting out the extras can save a bundle. Brew your coffee at home, and you will save a great deal of money. Another way to save is to cut down on unnecessary expenses. Do you go to the beauty parlor for a wax, trim, and hair color once a month? If so, why not cut back those expenses to once every other month? Limit yourself to really save.

Adjust Your Comfort Level

Since summer season is in full swing, many are compelled to turn their air conditioning down as low as it will go. Did you know that the average household units will only cool you home 20 degrees below the outside temperature? If you are setting your air conditioning unit at 68 degrees and it is 95 degrees outside, it will just run constantly and waste electricity. Turn your unit to 73-75 degrees for optimal energy savings. To take your utility savings a step further, consider using a program like Electricity Match to help you find the best energy provider for your family’s needs.

What Can You Live Without?

While it is great to have a gym membership, bowling night with friends and movies once a week, do you really need all those things? For this tip, you need to simply reevaluate what is important to you. If you are not using the gym membership, then why should you pay for it? Cutting costs means cutting off things that are holding you back from saving.

These tips can help you start a savings plan immediately. Creating a budget and sticking to it can show you where you are spending unnecessary money. Limit yourself to indulgences and learn when to say no.
