Encouraging children is always a good thing. Jody Mackey does it through her writing. She is the author of the Sally Loves Series where a little girl, Sally is encouraged to be active with her family and friends. These books are great to show little ones, boys and girls alike, that getting involved and being active makes life fun and exciting.
In Sally Loves…to Swim! it is shown that Sally enjoys swimming with her brother on a swim team. She rides her bike and then she also races her brother to the pool every day during her summer vacation.
Sally, while looking around her house sees all the metals her mama earned by running, biking and swimming in triathlons. She asked her mama if she would be able to run one and her mama encourages her to do so by saying, “Honey, if you can dream it….and if you work hard at it…you can do whatever you set your mind to do.”
Sally takes her mama’s advice to heart and signs up for a triathlon. With her best friend, Cindy and her friends from her swim team, she runs, bikes and swims in her first triathlon. She not only accomplished what she set out to accomplish, she encouraged her friends to get involved as well.
In Sally Loves…to Dance! Sally is taught the ways of Hula. She and her friend, Evangelyne, take lessons in Hula from Evangelyne’s grandmother. Her grandmother is a Kuma Hula, which is Hula Teacher in Hawaiian.
Sally was unsure if she could actually learn to Hula and dance in a luau, but her mama encourages her with wonderful words of love. Evangelyne also encourages her by telling her what a good dancer she is and that she can do anything.
Sally and Evangelyne practice dancing every day and eventually they take part in a luau. Her mother, father and brother all attend the luau to support Sally. The girls dance in the luau in perfect time with each other. When it was over with, the girls hugged each other and know that without each other, they wouldn’t have had such a good time.
This story is about sharing wonderful moments with friends and being active. It is also about encouraging each other to never be afraid to live out your dreams.
