Closet Clear Out: Spring Cleaning Tips from the Inside Out

May 21, 2016 by Pam Maynard

Spring is here, which means it’s time to start cleaning after a long winter of letting dust accumulate and ignoring clutter in favor of pulling the blankets over your head. If you’re ready to make your home recognizable again, here are just a few tips for a deep spring cleaning.

Closet Clear Out Spring Cleaning Tips from the Inside Out
Do the Little Things

Instead of running a duster over your blinds, take them down and clean each one. Instead of shoving all your cords behind the entertainment center where they can’t be seen, sit down and untangle them so they can hang neatly. Your home won’t feel truly clean unless you take the time and do all the little things you’ve been putting off all year.

Launder Your Fabrics
This includes your drapes, curtains, tablecloths, and couch coverings in addition to everyday things like sheets, duvets, and pillowcases. Stick them all in the washing machine to rid them of months of dust and discoloration. For fabrics like furniture upholstery that can’t be easily removed, use special sprays and good old-fashioned elbow grease to scrub them where they rest. If it’s made of fibers, you need to clean it and make it smell fresh again.

Buy More Vinegar
Vinegar is a miracle worker that can benefit everything from clogged pipes to rusted bathroom fixtures. It’s non-harmful to almost all household surfaces, so don’t be afraid to try it on anything that’s staying stubbornly dirty. Whether it’s steel, chrome, plastic, vinyl, or even carpet, vinegar can help get those stains to vanish.

Clean One Room at a Time
It’s a common spring cleaning mistake to get overly ambitious and bite off more than you can chew. Instead of cleaning the surface level of every room and then losing steam, deep-clean just one room at a time. This will ensure you have tangible results to look at every time you start to flag.

Manage Your Trash
If you’re doing a deep, thorough clean of your living space, you’re probably going to accumulate some garbage. You just have to make sure it doesn’t slow you down. Sort your recyclables as you go, and if need be, rent a Tri-State Disposal dumpster for easy transport after you’re done cleaning. It’ll be faster and cheaper than hauling all your trash to the dump yourself.

These are just a few ways to banish the dust bunnies and bring order back into your home. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so create your own by cleaning your home from top to bottom.
